Mayor Resigns

Last week, we had a local election. The incumbent mayor, who's been in office for the last 23 years, lost his bid for re-election. Yesterday he announced he was immediately resigning and the deputy mayor would fill in until the swearing-in of village officials on April 6th. This speaks to me of a sore loser. What do you think?

I'm sorry but there's not enough info here, Debodun. Is it possible that the mayor was simply exhausted from the campaign? Were health issues involved? Family issues? :dunno:
 

I wouldn't know any more than you do about personal issues with him. But if he had any, why would he run for office again knowing that? I'm just looking for unbiased opinions as to what his reasons might be. Not anything to get serious about or that I am going to tattle about what's said here.
 
No I wouldn't immediately necessarily think it would be sore loser syndrome. It could be the latest campaign was just too exhusting for him and perhaps he promised himself that if he lost he would take the opportunity to stand down....or it could simply be also that he felt pressured by his supporters to stand for re-election and his heart wasn't really in it, and again vowed to stand down if he lost.

That said I don't know the personality of your Mayor, and you do have some insight so perhaps you are right in your assertion.
 
There could be a lot of reasons, both good and bad for his actions. However, I personally don't think it's good for any politician to become entrenched in the job for 23 years. Two terms at the most, and then it's time to allow someone else to take the reins, no matter what level of politics it may be.
