Medicaid and Food Stamps may be abolished!!!

A sizeable share of the US population depends on these programs. More than 71 million people are enrolled in Medicaid, and roughly 42 million Americans receive food stamps, according to the federal agencies that oversee them. The Administration is considering abolishing these programs.

That could be a real disaster for the poor people in America. Lots of folks will now have no food and no medical care. The people proposing this are billionaires who have no feeling for the lower classes.

Soon America may be only for billionaires and even the middle classes may soon be in deep trouble.

This action could affect the social balance in America and could even result in civil war or revolution!

Like nearly every government program, there is fraud and waste in Medicare and food stamps. When at the grocery store, I sometimes see someone buying a cart of groceries, paying with a SNAP card, then driving off in an expensive new car/SUV.

Key word MAY. Not a done deal & the legislation is still marching thru congress. There is wording that doesn't eliminate but downsize who qualifies. Other wording about having to work a portion of a month to qualify. It isn't a simple bit of legislation taking effect immediately. Phasing in over several years is part of the wording. Lastly it could be vetoed by the president when presented to him.

In other words relax there is a lot that has to be resolved. Think about the input of ChiroDoc as part of the reason for even generating this legislative action.

I spend my career in human services and I can tell you that there is very little waste and fraud. That’s just the excuse they are using to take money from poor people and give it to the rich.

80% of seniors that are in nursing homes are on Medicaid. Even if they had money and or a home to start with the money gets used very quickly because the high cost of nursing home care. Are they going to wheel out grandma and grandpa and leave them on the street?

Many people on Medicaid are people that are working full-time but still poor because only 50% of jobs now offer health insurance. Poor families also rely on snap to eat. It’s usually a poor single mom supporting her children. There’s always stories about people driving new expensive cars, using food stamps, and living high on the hog. Those fake stories never cease to amaze me. Back in the 80s they were called welfare Queens to turn the population against poor people.

Mitch, just like you I am worried sick about what’s going to happen to the less fortunate in this country. Extremely wealthy people do not need anymore money but poor people need their basic needs met.

The last number I read estimated that 100,000 people could easily die because their Medicaid will go away and they won’t be able to afford healthcare and their meds. Even with the system we have now young people have died because they can’t afford their diabetes medication. Is this a type of country we want to live in?

While proposals have been made in the House of Representatives to make significant cuts to Medicaid and food stamps (SNAP), they are not being abolished. These proposals are part of a larger plan to reduce government spending and could lead to changes in eligibility, benefits, and funding for these programs.

Calm down Chicken Little...

No, they are not being abolished because you would have mass rioting if they did. They’re just going to cut enough to kill 100,000 or so people so no big deal I guess. I doubt the senate is going to save the day.

it is my understanding as well that they want to cut or reduce these essential programs.

Are you aware of the traveling circuit they have; up North in the Summer, then to the S.W. for the Winter months? Or, how do you like a family going to Las Vegas to get gambling money - wife and children claiming the father drove them there, abandon them claiming the need for emergency funds? How many parents dump their kids on grandparents while they collect support money from the taxpayers for those kids?

There have always been a lot of creative fairytales told around poor people that rely on social services to survive. I have to admit, though your tale is one of the most creative that I’ve seen yet.:))

I am sure there are some people abuse social welfare programs, and there are people who trulyneed these programto survive. Fortunately, I don't use these programs myself. And I am not in the position to judge people.

Where did you get factual info like killing 100k people?
You don't think cutting essential services, like Medicaid, for the most vulnerable, poor people will cause deaths?! Of course it will ! People will not be able to afford doctor and hospital visits nor be able to afford to get their critical medications. I've heard stories from people I've known about how shabbily they or those known to them were treated when they had Medicaid. My Honorary Daughter told me that once her insurance card with a similar name to Medicaid was mistaken for Medicaid and she got treated differently....until she told them off and corrected their assumptions.

I'm with @Teacher Terry and others who feel the same about this I've felt for quite a while that they are seeking to "thin the herd" and get rid of the undesirables, which includes the poor and indigent.

Seems to me there is a lot of speculation about what will happen with the legislation that hasn't passed. We don't even know if the legislation would be vetoed.

I admit I don't know the provisions in the legislation that will impact the herd. Since thinning the herd is thought to be the reason behind the legislation can either you or Teacher Terry research and list exactly what is proposed? The time frame & all particulars that you & Teacher Terry expect happen?

Zero doubt there are people that need the programs in place now. Also doubt in my mind that some of the funding allocated isn't being wasted. How to get the money to do the most good will take some innovative action. Will it be 100% successful very doubtful but it will provide an opportunity to examen the failure and make corrections.

Maybe just maybe the financial ability of America to support all the social programs is slipping & not so subtle action is being taken to avoid total collapse. Looking up [default on loans increasing] doesn't give me much hope for long term stability.

Actually, I've been meaning to do just that Knight. I'll check more than one source and post what I find, probably later in the day.

Thank You I appreciate learning about the provisions in legislation that could negatively impact a massive amount people & the time frame it would take.
