Any defense is to discredit the witness, here, a silent witness, the woman. It is the Prosecutor's job to squeeze them until they are bone dry, meritless. Sometimes the defense has no legal choice but to go out on a limb with the so called facts, or on appeal, the defendant would argue ineffective assistance of Counsel, among other assignments of error.
