Men... do you gravitate towards button-down collars or collars with no buttons?

I prefer tuxedo style shirts that do not have a collar at all (or what appears to be called a banded collar.) However I rarely find those and have only had a few over the years. I also prefer buttoned down collars, but they tend to be on less interesting shirts so I only have a few of them.

I almost purchased those magnetic collar stays that were featured on Shark Tank many years ago because I like the look of a collar that's standing up rather than one that flops around.

As for the tie question, I only wear one when I want to dress formally. I generally reserve that for a fancy dinner or an evening at a fancy event. I used to wear a tie when interviewing, but in the tech industry ties are often seen as negative. I still wear a dress shirt and suit, but just skip the tie. If I've been told they have a causal atmosphere I'll ditch the suit and just wear dress slacks and a dress shirt.

I totally agree with you @drifter

Anything goes these days...almost.
Some open collar. Some not.
Some button down. Some not.
Some wear socks some go without.
Some get quite creative with patterns and colors, vests and draped scarves around the neck (like artsy-ish)

This!
A nice t-shirt under a sport coat works.
I like that look

Looks more like he's in his vest and has forgotten to put his shirt on.

For casual, an open neck shirt, designed and made to be so, is my definition of casual.
To be a little more formal, but with an air of casualty, replace the shirt with a spearpoint,
buttoned up and an added necktie. You've probably noticed that I have changed jackets.
The first is seersucker, the second, pure linen.

Wow, you look quite debonaire Horseless! I'll forgive you for what you said about Pierce Brosnan aka 007 :giggle:
Aw shucks Lara, what a lovely compliment. Brosnan wasn't the best of Bonds, but then again, he didn't have the scripts taken from Fleming's books. Hardly his fault.
