Merry-go-round.

As young kids we, my siblings and I called it the "hoppy-horse" later merry-go-round. At a real young age there were times my mom had to take me off because I would start to cry, I guess it made me dizzy or something. Last time, I probably was in my late teens still sometimes got dizzy, but stayed the course. :)

The last time I rode a merry go round ,I think I was in my pre-teen yrs, family went to the annual Erie County Fair in Hamburg,NY. Its located south of Buffalo

I haven't been on one since I was a child, it was always a merry go round for me.

Merry go around. The last time I rode was when my girls were small and I held them in front of me as they were too small to ride by themselves.

We had a playground with swings, merry-go-round, slide, see-saw and a maypole on military housing. I liked swinging around on the maypole best, but really did like the the merry-go-round, too, self propelled. I was around 10 years old then.

Don't really know them, but met a couple at a picnic once that traveled around 'restoring them' ? They had a utility bodied truck that carried all their supplies /tools, and towed an Airstream that they lived in...mostly on the job site they said ? That was how they lived, & how they made their living. They of course had many photos...and they just seemed like very happy people / couple. I suppose it was a relaxing life?.....no roots.

Sorry...I know this thread was about riding one...didn't intend to hijack...

Only twice I can think of, less than 10 years old. I'm kind of like jujube, in that things that go in a circle make me a bit queasy. Ferris wheel type circles are OK though.

Would have to be the Grand Carousel at Knoebel's Park in PA, about, oh, 17 or so years ago with the kids.

Built in 1913 in North Beach, Long Island, it has 63 horses and 3 chariots, and is one of the few remaining carousels where you can still catch the brass ring.

They’ve always kinda creeped me out
Like clowns
Maybe I watched too many late night scary movies as a kid
Other than that pesky phobia, never could quite figger why anyone would care to ride a saddled ostrich….

‘Carousel’ has always been a foreign word to me

And when ‘merry-go-round’ is mentioned, the brief childhood joy I had on the one at Pier Park in Portland comes to mind, and after getting completely disoriented when the bigger kids got the hang of hand over hand power speed twirl, the last ditch effort to remain with the rest of the petrified screaming riders by desperately clinging to the bars with my legs while dragging my head in the sawdust, going round and round, comes vividly to mind

Good times

Because it's fun.

Especially when they stick their heads in the sand.

No wonder - it's originally French (or Italian?).

What kind of Mephistopheles-Go-Round was that? Sounds horrifying.

To be honest, I have a love hate for them too as they were often used with a creep factor in a lot of movies. In some ways that I think had a subconscious affect in my feelings about them. Also, whenever I hear carousel, I think of the movie, which I also love hated, had one of my favorite childhood songs. The movie "Carousel" for some reasons had me holding on to it in my mine with fond thoughts till I saw clips of again not long ago. I must have been between 7 & 9 when I saw it on TV. Either way, hoppy horses do have their beauty and their creep factor. :D

I love the word carousel but my favourite name for the same thing is a Horse Tornado. :)

I was 52 the last time I was on one, pretending to race my then 28 year old son. I won! It was late at night and we were the only two still at an open travelling fairground event.

took my grand kiddies to one, thinking I could give them the same horrific experience

they just kept saying 'faster papaw faster'

gave up after signs of cardiac arrest

So here I am riding a beautiful white horse and I look behind me and I'm being chased by a lion. A lion! And beside him is a tiger. They're both after me. I whip my horse hard, but I can't pull away from the lion and tiger. They just keep coming and coming. I'm a goner! I'm dead meat! They'll be fighting over my bones! I'm screaming my head off and praying and shouting and then the carnie stops the carousel.

The restraining order doesn't expire until 2020.
