I’ve just returned after getting a few groceries for our Christmas lunch ,and found a missed call from Melbourne ( Victoria ) 1000+ km away
( so called ) …..it could be from anywhere .

Anyway the caller with very polite voice ….. said …. I had 2 packages to collect at the post office. ,if I wasn’t able to collect by Monday ..…you all know the drill …….they would be sent back …..

The sound of the callers voice was clear and professional and if one wasn’t aware of scams ~ you could mistake the call as genuine

Our neighbour is our parcel delivery man …and it wasn’t him on the phone …...why would someone who’s 10 hours drive away from us have a parcel for us ….its screamed scam ~ as soon as I seen the interstate code which is 03

We've not even bought anything …so it’s getting more scarier …I remember way back when scams started the ones that phoned us were often quite aggressive …… .it’s hard to trust anyone now

I don't receive many scam or sales type calls but now and then, when I do receive one, I will play with them. Especially the ones who are selling car repair type policies. I say, "Oh! I am so glad you called! Nobody will insure my car for breakdowns." They will always ask, "What type of car is it?" I tell them it's a 1965 VW bug. They just hang up.

I think in the future, when it is labeled "Scam Call" on the caller ID, I will answer, "Special Agent Johnson, how may I help you?"

I need to get a life, lol.

For context, my hubs was critically ill when he received this voicemail. "You owe money. You need to repay or we'll come to your house and arrest you." type of call.

He became very upset. I asked to listen to the call. I put it on speaker and asked him, what is missing from this voicemail? He couldn't answer. I asked him, do you hear a business name at all? There wasn't one. I told him that's how you know it's a scam.

What made things worse is that I had just gone through his identity being stolen from the hospital he was being treated in. Credit cards opened in his name that I had to deal with. Police reports. Phones calls with the detective handling the ID thefts.
