Overall, the Mets had the fourth best record in the NL. They did win their division, but were fourth overall. So, let's say they win the WS. It would be hard for me to think of them as champions with having the fourth best record in the NL. I would concede them to be World Series winners, obviously, but not champions. How can a team be champions when they had the fourth best record in their league? I know they weren't a wild card, but this is why I dislike wild cards. I have seen a wild card team win a World Series. No way are they to be considered champions. To be a champion, a team has to be the best of the best, not fourth best.
Just my opinion.
