Miami to fine people up to $500 if they don't wear masks

Walking outside your home without a mask could become expensive in Miami, which on Thursday ushered in a new ordinance that can fine people up to $500 for failing to cover their mouth and nose while in public.


People without masks in public will first be issued a verbal warning, while a city worker will provide them with a free mask, the city said on its website.

I wish they would do this everywhere too! I can just hear all the idiots screaming about their precious rights to freedom. They could always be reminded they aren't free to walk into a grocery store and light up a cigarette either. Infringement of rights for the common good is nothing new.

Until this virus is brought under control, wearing a mask while in public is not only good common sense, but Should be mandatory, IMO. Anything that reduces the odds of spreading this virus is worth doing. "Rights" need to take a back seat during this pandemic.

I feel for governors and mayors making this decision. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't. I feel that we wouldn't be in this dire current situation if it had been mandated in the very beginning. People in America are just plain spoiled! God forbid that they can't go to restaurants or bars or beaches or gyms for awhile in order to stop this everburgeoning health crisis. Masks? Most don't care for others enough to respect this mandate. I, for one, am sick to death of the whining about their "civil liberties." They have little regard for anyone else's.
