Misa found a fertilized Chestnut that shouldn't be there this morning.

Misa was walking across the creek along a row of Chestnut trees. She noticed one that had been fertilized but there are no male trees around and it is not a self pollinating cultivar. How did it get fertilized or is it possible that it appears to be fertile and not be. All the other nuts that fell where tiny and shriveled up. We think it is a Chinese Chestnut tree. Is it a miracle before Christmas? :)

We looked on farmanddairy.com for instructions to grow a new tree. We are planning on planting it in late February.

Surround it with peat moss, place in a can, put it in the refrigerator. Wait til Feb. to plant it. Maybe in 3 years we'll have fresh delicious Chestnuts for the fall. :)

I love experiments like that. I found a seed in a mandarin orange and it sprouted and is doing well. I'll never get oranges from it but it is fun to watch it grow. Good luck with your chestnut.
