This is something probably only Californians will recognize, but Christmas makes me remember it. There was a company called Mission Pak. Each Christmas they would advertise their gift packages of dried and candied fruit with a catchy jingle. They set up temporary stores where you could place orders and they would ship them direct.
We had a family friend who was an elderly woman, and each year she worked at a Mission Pak store. And every year she gave us a gift pack. I always looked forward to the dates covered in powdered sugar, stuffed with almonds. I remember going into one of their stores and seeing a large glass container filled with brandied apricots. I've always wondered what they would taste like.
