6 ex-cops receive prison sentences from 10-40 years. "Mr. Parker and Mr. Jenkins [ victims of the goon squad ] said they hoped federal authorities investigate Sheriff Bailey next. “He’s the head of the snake,” Mr. Parker said. “We got our foot on his tail now.”"

"The officers, who pleaded guilty last summer, shocked both men with Tasers and abused them with a sex toy. During what was described as a mock execution, one of the officers shot Mr. Jenkins in the mouth, nearly killing him.

NYT- "Sentencing hearings this week for six law enforcement officers, some of whom were members of the Goon Squad, revealed a disturbing portrait of a Mississippi sheriff’s department that encouraged deputies to use extreme violence as a policing tool.

Prosecutors, along with several of the deputies who were sentenced, described a toxic culture in which senior officers directed the men they oversaw to humiliate and torture people suspected of crimes.

Young deputies said they saw violence as a way to earn promotions and to live up to the expectations of their supervisors, who were considered heroes of the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department."

Goon squad

NYT - "Over the past year, The Times and Mississippi Today have investigated how powerful sheriffs in rural Mississippi have dodged accountability in the face of misconduct allegations. The reporting exposed numerous sexual abuse accusations against two sheriffs in counties near Rankin, along with evidence that Sheriff Bailey obtained subpoenas to surveil his girlfriend’s phone calls.

Sheriff Bailey has faced increased scrutiny since the Justice Department began to investigate his deputies’ conduct this year, and the NAACP and local activist groups have called for his resignation. After 12 years as sheriff, he was re-elected in November when he ran unopposed."

The deputies accused of being involved in violent arrests declined to comment or did not respond to repeated requests for interviews."

This is such a sad and frankly, embarrassing story. I know other nations have terrible problems too - India, Haiti, Yemen, Russia, etc. But this one is right out of the 1950s.

What they did was beyond terrible. I'm glad they are being punished by the legal system for their hateful, egregious actions. Now I hope some "Brothahs" where they are going give them a taste of their own medicine!

I remember a young Engineer telling me he would never go back to Atlanta.
The fear of being shot every day is what he said. Would never go south again.

I just read about this case and find what these men did disturbing on so many levels. But karmas a bitch…………….prison here they come………..

Prison culture is all about race, inmates are virtually required to 'affiliate' with their particular racial group, or face consequences. These cops will fit right in with the white prison gangs.
