I got the idea for this motivational artwork that I call Laughter from learning that if we try to laugh when we don’t feel like it, we will feel better. If we smile when we feel like we can’t or have no reason to, we will be uplifted. I have tried it and it does make a difference.

I took one of two pieces of triangular scrap foam core and covered it with a piece of my handpainted hearts paper. I like working in small spaces. I then used a hodge-podge of elements to embellish the happy words that I applied.

I applied two repositionable stickers, laugh often and be happy, from Wonderful Words Self-Adhesive Word Art pk. These are clear stickers, not rub-ons. I used Tacky Glue to apply heavier elements and Mod-Podge for collage and sealing the piece.

I added junk mail stickers, clip art words and hand-lettering, keeping with a purple, pink and turquoise color theme. Other embellishments are ribbon, flat sequins, a pearl ear stud, glitter, beads, charms, shell and odd salvaged scraps.

I added this-and-that dangles using embroidery floss. I took a metal tag, added a clip art word, happiness, to the parchment center and embellished with glitter glue dots and a shell.

I used black marker to hand-letter other laughter and happy words to fill in the design. Included for faith-filled encouragement are the scripture references:

Proverbs 15:13,15 A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, But he who is of a merry heart has a continual feast.

Proverbs 17:22 A merry heart does good, like medicine.

It’s finished with an embroidery floss hanger and a craft paper backing.

It’s very lightweight and measures 3 1/2” tall by 7” wide.

I tried to fill my design with anything that looks or sounds (dangles tinkling together when shaken) like happiness; or that is reminiscent of joy.

I will be adding more of my mixed media artwork to this thread. I hope you will add your own work for us to enjoy.
