More on Hearing Aids

As many of you know I am in the process of relearning how to hear again with my COCHLEAR IMPLANT. I have been noticing the large number of seniors lately that wear hearing aids and yet do not hear very well if at all. I hope you are not one of them. When my hearing aids failed to give me hearing is when I decided on a Cochlear Implant.
 

We have breakfast, every Sunday, with a bunch of friends from all over the country. One just had this procedure done. What a difference in his attitude. He is still getting use to the controller, but he hears so very much better.

The implant is for the left ear and I wear a hearing aid in the right that by its self only gives me 5% hearing. The right hearing aid electronically picks up sound from the implant. I can control volume with a very small remote control device.
 
I still don't qualify for the implant but not hearing all that well because I don't have the top of the line aid. Can't afford it. Because the top of the line aid might help I can't get the implant. I probably will need two more pairs of aids before I'm six feet under and certainly can't afford them either. I just got these a year ago so we will see how long they last. May switch to another brand at that time or, who knows, by then may qualify. Glad to read you are doing well with yours,Lon.
 
Ruth, you may not necessarily need top of the line. These days with newer technology a mid tier aid can be very good for many environments. Even the entry level aids are getting much better.
How severe is your hearing loss?
Don't get me wrong, I know you want the best hearing you can get but I don't want you to be too discouraged if you can't afford that.

Sometimes I hear the sound all right but I do not understand what is said, as if it is a foreign language.
Especially high soprano voices. Is that what you mean? Maybe I need a hearing aid too.
 
Somehow I am hoping there will be a hearing aid app for my cell phone.

Then I can just plug in my earphones.

I just need a little boost. Not a big one.

Here in Canada hearing aids are not covered under the health plan and they are awfully expensive.

There are some now Camper and you don't need a separate streamer device. You don't even need earphones. It streams direct from the phone to your hearing aids.

If your loss is in the high pitches that's what you'll experience. The low tones are where you get your power or volume. The high pitch gives you your clarity and understanding.

I don't want the hearing aid. I want to hear the sound amplified through my cell phone.

I don't need everyone else to hear it. Just me through my cell phone earphones.

It would be great in certain places. I don't go to funerals anymore because I can't hear anything clearly through a microphone and a speaker.

If the speaker is speaking without a microphone I can hear him clearly.

Oh ok you just want the app. But just to clarify if you did have aids no one else could hear your conversation because it would be through the aids into your ears.
I will keep my ears out for something like what you are looking for. Sort of using your phone as a receiver of the sound and heard through your earphones, correct?
 
Camper I just searched in the app store and found something called "Ear Spy Volume" that picks up sound and puts it in your earphones. I'm sure there are others like that. While your at it you could spy on your neighbors conversations.:)
I'm just afraid that will only make the offensive sounds worse as in louder.
Canada has no programs for hearing aids?

No help for hearing aids unless it was job related that caused the deafness or maybe veterans programs.

For a guy like me. I would have to pay through the nose to get a hearing aid.

Yes I'm afraid just making it louder won't help. I have to be able to adjust the frequency of the sound. I think speakers are designed to boost the bass output. I need treble help. I can tell that because there is an app on the internet that gives a hearing test.

At night there is one T.V. station that goes off and plays a high frequency tone. It masks my tinnitus perfectly.
