More Plane News... 10 On Board and Missing in Alaska

According to the video, we can almost draw a few conclusions. If the arriving airport was expecting the plane, why wasn’t the runway already cleared, instead of waiting until it was ready to land? The plane would not have had to circle or go into a hold pattern waiting for the runway to be cleared.

I also noted that there was freezing rain and light snow in the area. These conditions are not favorable for flying. Any accumulation of ice or snow on the wings can bring a plane down. It was almost imperative that the plane be given clear to land upon their arrival.

This is a small plane and doesn’t have the thrust and speed that a large jet would have. To think that they were getting themselves into a stall situation gives me the shivers.

Of course, I may not have all the facts, so I am only speculating what “may” have happened.

Probably in poor taste to post this but I am reminded of a scene from the movie "Never Cry Wolf"

Air controllers' slipup? 0nly one keeping an eye on air flights altitude at the time?

Seems like there's a plane mishap every single day lately! There have been many reports of planes clipping wings on the runways, small planes going down in neighborhoods and even highways. Of course the fatal disasters last week. This is the first I've heard of the missing plane. It will be interesting to see what they find out.

Although the point is moot, I wanted to add that I did a little research on the plane and found that this plane does not have wing heaters, which surprised me being that the plane flew many flights in Alaska.

It does have static heaters in the pitot tubes, which measures airspeed. This is also important if you are watching the speed in case you are nearing a stall environment.

I can’t help to think if the runway had been cleared since they were expecting an arrival, the plane could have landed without going into a hold and this accident may have been prevented.

3 Dead 7 missing !

The search for a plane which vanished off the coast of Alaska has ended in tragedy with all ten people aboard believed to be dead inside.

The aircraft was discovered crash-landed 34 miles southeast of its intended destination of Nome on Friday.

The tiny Bering Air Caravan took off from Unalakleet, a small community in western Alaska, and was on a short 55-minute commuter flight when it suddenly disappeared off flight radars over the Norton Sound inlet at 3:16pm local time.
Little detail is known about those who were on board except they were all adults.

An initial report around 6.20pm ET stated that the remains of three people had been discovered.

However, rescuers have since reported they believe the remaining bodies are within the mangled wreckage of the plane, but are currently inaccessible due to its condition.

Wasn't their a report they only confirmed 3 dead? No matter not a way to go.

RIP
What I had seen on the news is that 3 were found inside the plane. At that time, there was no word on others but they were presumed dead. Of course, sadly that presumption was correct. May they all R.I.P.
