Most Remote American Air Bases in the World

Guess I must have been born under a 'Bad Sign', as I have been stationed or had temporary duty to 5 of those listed.

Andersen AFB - My first duty station and spent 3+ years there, starting in 1970.

Shemya AFB - Spent a year on the island from 1974-1975, the hardest one to get used to.

Diego Garcia - Spent about 8 months on the island on my deployment during the Gulf War in 1990.

Kunsan Air Base - Did some training there, a short TDY.

Thule Air Base - 2 week layover waiting for a plane to be repaired. Too Cold by far...

Stationed at a couple of other 'remote' sites, but they were located in isolated parts of the U.S.

I always believed that once your name got put in the computer under 'Loves Remotes', they rolled the dice to find the most
isolated place to send you to!

(Guess the computer malfunctioned twice, allowing me extended time stationed in England and California, two of the best postings)

One of the groomsmen in my late husband's and my wedding ended up at Shemya for a year. He was not a happy camper.

Later, he was sent to Sinop, in Turkey, another remote unaccompanied station. He said Sinop stood for   Sex  Is  Not  Our  Problem. LOL.
