I can't imagine making a major move to Central Texas after living in the Rio Grande Valley for 22 years. We have accumulated so much and are MUCH older to do all the packing, etc. And how in the world will we take / tow the 2nd vehicle? Just having thoughts. I'm sounding like @debodun, no pun intended.

I will miss all the awesome stores, etc. that they have here. What can I say, I am a shopaholic as well as a chocoholic. lol There are not any specialists either back home! I would have to drive to the nearest city (San Antonio).

Good thing I don't own a pup; he'd be terrified of my driving to S.A. where I'd drop him/her off at my sis-in-law during medical visits, etc.

Good luck. Make a list, check it several times. Can you downsize some of your stuff before you move? When time comes to pack boxes, make an inventory, and put inside each box...or number each box, and number inventory pages on your computer.

Yes, I have been slowly downsizing pieces of furniture; my lucky stepson is in heaven with it all.

Also, pack a box containing all the stuff you'll need before you get everything unpacked. Think: coffee maker, coffee or tea, cups, utensils, breakfast cereal (if you eat it), etc. Nothing like moving and having to look through boxes and boxes for a coffee mug.

I'm guessing from your initial description that you're going to rent a truck for your stuff? If so, you can get a trailer for your car. (Not sure if you have two cars.)

For the drive, we were fond of stopping at a store (Whole Foods?) to pick up a bunch of sandwiches and whatever we were going to drink, to store in a cooler for eating on the way there. Unless you're going to stop at restaurants.

Maybe you can pay someone to be the driver of the third vehicle or hire a professional moving company. We did that after packing everything ourselves.

I hope you’ll be closer to your little nieces and nephews.

The last time I made a major move on my own using a UHaul truck I arranged for labor to load and unload the truck using independent contractors from the UHaul site and it was well worth the money.

I agree with others that have mentioned a box for essential items like the coffee pot, toilet paper, snacks, checkbook, keys, etc...

Also, I found that it was best to only move the things that had sentimental value or a significant cost to replace. I sold or gave away approx. half of my things because it was cheaper to replace them than it was to pack and move them. I would consider the same approach with moving two vehicles. Now might be the time to consider becoming a one-car family or replacing a vehicle when you get situated in your new location.
