Mr. Bean, British TV Series

Paladin1950

Still love 50's & 60's music!
My older sister usually buys me British TV shows for Christmas, since she knows I watch British TV shows. This year, it was Mr. Bean. So this week I have been sitting in front of my TV laughing along with the antics of Rowan Atkinson. I probably have as many British TV shows in my collection as I do American shows. Maybe even more. Some of the scenes in these episodes are so silly that I can't help but laugh. But after one disc, I have to stop watching for a day or so. If I watch them all in the same day, I fear I will be as crazy as Mr. Bean obviously is.

oh Gawd... I hated that character.. Jeez.. dreadful!!:rolleyes:

if it hadn't been for Blackadder.. I would hate Rowan Atkinson...

My wife lived 20 years in Cornwall, England. I liked Mr. Bean but my wife refused to watch him. She thought the show was rather stupid. When we were kids we used to say, "Simple things amuse simple minds" and maybe that is true? Each to his own, I guess!

In the past I was forced by my kid to sit through Mr Bean several times. I wouldn't choose to watch him, but the acting was memorable and funny. Certainly a thousand times better than the Three Stooges that I watched when I was young.

As much as I like Rowan Atkinson, I can only take Mr Bean in moderation. The character has me laughting in parts, but I emphasis, in parts. I suppose the key to watching this type of character and 'physical comedy' is to distance yourself from it, & see is as "a child in a grown man's body", as Rowan discribed it. Someone who is at odds with how the world works.

As for Rowan Atkinson himself, I think he can produce some really clever humour. There is a lot more to Rowan than Mr Bean.
