I've been thinking about him. In 1969, through a weird twist of fate, I got to go to the Baseball Sports Writers Dinner in NYC. I was a young guy in the Navy from a tiny town in Mass, way out of my league. I was sitting with the CEOs of huge corporations, and people I saw on TV. The Mets won the World Series that year and they were walking around this monster size ballroom. But nobody cared about them. Muhammad Ali was in the room. It was like some kind of electricity or something. Wow. We were in the same room as Muhammad Ali. That's all anybody could talk about. I never got to see him. He was at a table far away. And when he was introduced, DAMN, everybody stood up and applauded. I met and shook the hands of a lot of big time sports guys. That was 47 years ago, I don't remember one of them. But I was in the same room as Muhammad Ali.
