Muhammed Ali's funeral

I'm watching Muhammed Ali's funeral. Some of the speakers have been fantastic, telling stories about Ali and how he affected theirs and others' lives, but FOR THE LOVE OF PETE! why did some of them have to turn their speeches into political/religious tirades (especially the wild-haired rabbi who turned it into a Clinton rally and advertised his web-site)? Highly disrespectful, highly. He wasn't the only one, but definitely the worst.

The religious part is about to end. The secular speakers are next. Heaven knows what will happen.

I have to say it totally missed me how this retired boxer became some sort of world hero with lowered flag (which I don't believe should be done for anyone but military and high government officials) & politicians & celebs turning out. Sorry he had the Parkinson's & I guess he will be missed, but he is just not in my Pantheon..

Me either. I enjoyed watching him box, but that's it.

Well maybe folks have admired his commitment to peace and compassion and his personal strength of character that led him to always take the high road. He didn't believe in war, so he served time for his beliefs. He didn't believe in killing other people so he refused to go to war. He worked hard to beat the tremendous odds that confronted him as a young black man back in the (?) and excelled beyond others.....lots of reasons I guess to admire him tremendously.

When he was in the ring, when he was young I remember his attitude. I tuned him out because of the arrogance. He beat the sense out of people. I'm against violence of any kind, even when the participants willingly beat each other up. I am sorry that his chosen profession gave him the disease. I am glad he grew from it. Growing from our experiences means our lives have served us well.
