He wants to develop a chip that would allow the brain to control complex electronic devices and eventually allow people with paralysis to regain motor function and treat brain diseases such as Parkinson's, dementia and Alzheimer's.

He is a visionary. We can all be one, but few make it happen. He is one of them that can.
 

I KNOW! restoring vision to those who can't see,
restoring hearing to those who can't hear,
restoration of full body functions,
I read about this months ago and it's WONDERFUL!!!!
Elon Musk is taking the brightest people on Earth and
letting them RUN full speed with their ideas!
If I didn't know better, I'd swear he traveled back in time
to help the world! He's a dynamo!
 
is he the wizard of Oz, he may be rich but I don't think we will see that anytime soon. This generation is kind of stuck. Hope he can do it or pass his information to others when he is older. I am sure one day, it could happen but it will be decades.
 
I think that this could be a really wonderful thing , especially for many of us who are older and have more physical problems. From what I have read about Elon Musk, he seems to actually care about people and want life to be better for us when it can be helped.

I also like that , while he wants to use the Neuralink for helping heal people, he realizes the huge differences between this and an artificial intelligence program, which could take away or even destroy humanity eventually.
He has warned about that several times, with the robotics and AI that is being developed.

My daughter has MS, and after reading about this, I was wondering if it could benefit her as well, since it seems to involve a brain/nerve/muscle connection. I do not understand much of how it works, but am going to keep reading about it and see.

I think that this will start happening sooner than decades in the future. It has been being developed, and would not be talked about this much unless we are getting fairly close.
As far as I have read, has not used this on a human yet, just animals; but I believe that he is close to the stage where people would volunteer for the treatment if he felt that he could help them with it.
I think we will see this in the next year, maybe……. At least starting to be used.

Not trying to be negative but we have not stopped cancer of all types but we can do this? Just does not make sense to me. Let's start with all types of cancers, alzheimers, dementia etc. then move on to the next things.
 
Scientists are already working on those things, just like engineers were working on electric cars long before Musk bought Tesla. Musk acts like these are all his ideas and the media jumps on the bandwagon when in fact, people keeping a low profile have been doing research for years on brain chips. Musk has the money to steal those people away from universities where they have been working, so he has that advantage. Time will tell if the only thing that matters to them is money or if bettering society is more important.

If the scientists want to work for Musk and they get to use their skills and knowledge freely, that’s their choice. I see nothing wrong with that. His companies have the purchasing power for equipment.

JMO, it’s too bad that he‘s wasting 44B on a fluffy place like Twitter.

He is also engaged in the development of humanoid robots. One day, not in our lifetimes, robots will serve and assist us in a variety of ways and Musk’s chip may be a principle means of communication.
