My heart goes out to all these people living with 600 lbs and more.....all of them have very deep emotional issues where food is the remedy to keep them feeling more secure and something to look forward to they enjoy.....so they think....its so sad :(

But watching their progress over one year's time is amazing.....and something only they can do by themselves with a strong will to keep on living and get healthier and more mobile.....

I've watched this show a couple of times
The doctor always tells his patients up front how hard it will be,if they have the will power, they will lose the weight.I think it really helps if the person has a good support team e.g .family&friends to encouraged them to keep going
The transformation with some of the patients who have stuck with it,lost the weight is remarkable Sue

I probably watched a couple shows years ago but no more. Even if I had cable, I would not go there. Sad very sad that a human let's themselves go where they end up. Hard to imagine.

How can they let themselves get that big?? If I ever felt that I were gaining that much weight, I'd do something about it!

It ain't healthy !! Probably go on a really reduction diet. I wouldn't even like to be seen in public !

Here is OUR reality. A couple years back my DH was hospitalized with congestive heart failure and A-Fib. At the time he weighed in at about 400, give or take. Since then he has lost almost 100 pounds, and is about 318 or so. He went to his GP last week for a routine visit. His doc, for some oddball reason was not happy enough with an almost 100 pound weight loss and asked him if he would consider gastric bypass surgery!!!! My husband looked at him, and never at a loss for words "Now doc, I have lost about 100 pounds ON MY OWN, and now you think I need surgery? F*** NO!!!"

Good for him, I'd find a new GP.

Eliminate ALL white foods: breads, pasta, rice, potatoes and the weight will come off. The gal who cuts my hair is 5' and when I met her she was in the process of taking off the 82 lbs which was putting her near diabetes. She DID IT and anyone can do that.....greens, veggies, protein, good fats and WATER.

Personally I stopped bringing any breads into my house 10 yrs ago. We don't NEED bread in our bodies. Some have this love affair with breads and that is just plain foolish. Totally not needed in our bodies...just a FILLER.

Also, there is a lot of info on the gluten in our foods that keep people overweight.

Lots of overweight folks can get up to 200 lbs off by their own doing.....after that, lots of em' resort back to bad eating habits, thinking all that weight loss is sufficient for their better health.....so in continuing to keep their good eating habits going, the doc will suggest the gastric bypass so they eat less and gain less in the long run....I witnessed this first hand when working at GNC for five years....actual testimonies of customers before and after their journey....they all said they couldn't have a strong enuf will to continue lossing weight to a healthy level without the surgery.....and were very pleased with how it was going except the extra sagging skin it left on them.....surgery to remove that in phases was their next decision....the healing is very painful....

Thing with my husband is, as you recall, he went through major cancer surgery in June. TWO months ago, and his doc decides to suggest yet another surgery? My husband's eating habits have improved drastically, as have mine. I think we both resented the docs suggestion

On another group a member just sent thru her horror story on a gastric bypass...she is in a wheelchair and is only 42. I don't know her weight from the beginning, she didn't say but a by pass is serious...her stomach imploded when she g ot home and she is on a long long course of abx drugs. NEVER get to that point.

So sorry about this Marie....I'm a new member here so wouldn't have known about his cancer surgery.....in that case, yeah, I might have taken that doc's suggestion as really rude, offensive and pushing it :eek:ffended: Glad to hear you're both doing okay xo

No worries. What upset him is that is doctor DID know he was still, in effect recovering from major surgery. Just pissed him off. You are cool.

I don't anyone in my personal life who has done this surgery, just this online person. BUT I would avoid all surgeries if possible...take off weight sensibly with the food eliminations we don't need. We get plenty of carbs from some of our veggies. All the other simple carbs are a waste.

I've watched that show a few times, and it is amazing that people would allow themselves to get in such shape. I suppose there are a few that have some clinical issue that contributes to their excessive weight gain, but the majority seem to bring this condition on themselves. We go to the casino's several times a year, and usually eat at the buffet. Invariably, there is someone sitting nearby who shovels food into their mouths as fast as they can swallow it, and goes back for 2nd's, third's, and if we sit there long enough...4th's....and everyone of them has more "butt" hanging over the sides of the chair than on it. People who do that to themselves are missing something between their ears.
