My Adventures in Home Maintenance

I believe I posted this a few months ago - the bottom stair tread on my front porch was dry-rotted, so I had a handyman replace it. He painted the wood before installing. That made the other stair treads look shoddy with the flaking, peeling paint form a bad paint job I had done after my mom passed. This summer it was too hot or too rainy to try to re-paint the other stairs. I finally got around to it this weekend. Here are the results:

And since I had paint left in the quart can, I went around and painted the tops of the porch railings where it was down to the original wood. What a difference a little paint makes.

Thanks, AC. Now we'll see if it lasts over the winter, unlike the guy that did it before. I think he used cheap paint, it was almost like chalk paint or whitewash.

I bet you feel a sense of accomplishment. I sure did after I learned how to replace toilet flush valve. My next project will be installing a new toilet seat.

btw there are some good youtube videos on small home repair projects.

Anyway, yes, a little paint can make a LOT of difference. :)

The stairs look much better now....very important to keep stairs/steps in good condition as we age....falling is probably the Number One reason for Seniors to have ongoing issues.

BTW....I noticed you are still trying to find a way to fix your rotted tire on your ancient MTD mower....via the Lawnmower forum. If those guys can't direct you to a fix, you might as well start budgeting for a new mower.

I have to get the old tire off before I can look for a replacement. I was hoping someone could tell me what to do, but it looks like you have. LOL
