My Covid Story

I'm fine now, I'm happy to say, but I spent Christmas in the hospital and this is how it all happened; I've been staying home and being careful throughout the past year, but I have gone out for groceries about once a week. On December 18, I was shopping for groceries when, it being a cold day, my glasses steamed up over my mask. I took them off, wiped them on my shirt, and put them back on using one finger to push my hair out of the way and touching my eyeball in the process. Uh oh.

About 36 hours later I noticed I had "pink eye," and that night I felt my temperature rising, by morning it was 103 and I called to schedule a test. Sure enough it was positive, so I went into isolation and my son and husband started quarantine. A few days later I was standing in the kitchen when I suddenly projectile vomited my orange juice across the room and fainted as my son lowered me to the floor. My son called 911 and told them his mother had Covid and was having a stroke. I don't know where he got the stroke part, but the nice EMS squad came and they told me that it was standard protocol to admit to hospital anyone over 55 with Covid who fainted.

In the hospital they gave me; shots of blood thinner, two IV bags of antibiotics, several bags of fluid, steroid shots, a few other drugs known to help with Covid. After two days they sent me home with the prescriptions and I then just pretty much slept for about a week.

I'm here to tell you, be careful, but if you do get it, try to get to the hospital for a few days. I'm not sure my body could have fought this off with just Tylenol and rest, all that intensive care at the hospital really put me ahead of the fight and I would want that for all of you.

Tell 'em you're having a stroke! ;)

Incredible story Della, thanks for sharing your horror experience, glad you are on the mend, maybe you could update on how you are progressing as aftermath symptoms are being reported which may be fake news.

Thank you Della for that cautionary tale because my glasses fog up too sometimes with my mask on. I'm always pushing my bangs away with my fingers and adjusting my mask which I know I shouldn't touch. You went through such a scary thing but your story will help others to be mindful thus possibly saving a life.

You have been to hell and back.......so sorry to hear you tested positive.
Please take care of yourself, and concentrate on beating this Covid 19.

Wow! What a crazy story. Thank you for taking the time to type it out. So glad you're well now.

Did your husband or son also get sick?
I'm happy to say they did not. My husband has A-Fib and is in constant danger of blood clots so his getting it was my biggest fear throughout. He volunteers at a food bank and I worry about him all the time. There's just no guessing where this thing will strike.

Thanks for all your good wishes, everyone!

Wow I’m glad you got through that! How are you feeling now?

My first responder son got Covid a while back. He was never very ill, just a fever for a couple of days and no energy for a couple days after that. 10 days into his quarantine when his mild symptoms had already been gone for week, he lost his taste and smell!! Anything like that happening with you?

Oh sorry about your son! I didn't lose my taste or smell, but I know someone who had that as her very first symptom.
