My dog has hives

Northwest PA. Fifty miles south of Lake Erie.
Wow what a morning!

Walked Mac around our usual walk.
He didn't want to crawl into any woodchuck holes.

Back in the house he's wandering around,, looking for good napping spot.
I'm at the computer,, hear wrenching sounds.
Find Mac hiding behind a chair, puddles of vomit by him.

He had been so active before the walk ,, now he lies on the carpet,, very still.
We look at him , think he's gotten into poison.
The vet we use is closed.
Recording at their office says to go Animal Clinic, over hour away.

About 20 minutes or so,, Mac is up & walking.
Wants on back porch.
He wasn't out there long & wants in.

I reach down to pet him,, what the????
He's broken out with small lumps on his head & shoulder,,rear legs.

Bath time,, happen to have dog shampoo with oatmeal in it.
Mac is good once in the tub , shampoo him & rinse.

It looks like the hives may be disappearing on his. body ,, face /head area still lumpy.
He curled up in his favorite spot.

Will be careful what he gets to eat today.

Guess we will always wonder what he ate or got into.

Anyone else have this happen to their dogs?
 

Today is one the few days I wish the dog could talk.
Would love to know what upset his stomach & what gave him small lumps all over front legs , face, rear legs.

I put the mat down ,, got water in the tub,picked him up & put him in.

He sat down & got a bath.
Was very good .
Picked him out & toweled him off.

We could see the lumps disappearing.
 
How very sad. I didnā€™t see your post. That must have been so worrisome. Iā€™m glad to know heā€™s improving. Please let us know how heā€™s doing.
 
Had a dog in the past and I found that he had small lumps on his body then my wife took him to the vet. It sounds similar to yours except he was not throwing up. The vet said it looked like he was running or walking through weedy patches where might have been pocked by thorny weeds. We put over the counter Neosporin on the lumps and they went away in a few days. My wife took him for walks and to a dog park down by the river and we think that is he was exposed to something he was allergic to.
 
Oh that poor baby!! I can't imagine how terrible it must've been...him not understanding what was happening and feeling much discomfort. Good thing the lumps are disappearing and things weren't any worse.
 
Ask tour vet the proper dose of benadryl ( diphenhydramine) for your pooch and keep it on hand. You did exactly the right thing in bathing him, but if you were just out for a walk that means he could be exposed again. Thank goodness he is alright.
 
Before our walk Mac was rolling on the rug & being silly.
He didn't seem ill when we came back in.

About 20 minutes later heard him barfing.
He was hiding behind furniture.
At first glance at the puddles of puke thought it was just fem.
Not much of it,, cleaned that up, & he just laid there.

When hubby saw him,, he got worried.
I tried out vet's number ,,, recording told us to got to animal clinic over an hour away.

Finally Mac got up & as we petted him saw the bumps forming.
They must have been itchy as he seemed to enjoy the bath.
By the time I got him out of the tub,, they were disappearing!

He was a lazy dog. most of the day.
 
I wonder if Mac was stung be bees?

Benadryl works wonders for allergic reactions in dogs. 1mg. per pound of dogs weight.
 
I think I would have noticed bees as I keep a leash on Mac when we walk.
Even though we are outside of town,, we still get wild critters to meet unexpectedly.


We were lucky to notice a large bear wandering around before we got far from the house, last Summer.
 
The only time we have had the 'bumps' on our dog is when he got hold of a McDonalds hamburger. Dogs are generally allergic to onions, our dog had massive bumps all over. Vet said it was a food allergy and to give him Benadryl and it worked fine...he had no vomiting...
