My friend came for a visit today...

This black racer almost came right up to me. He looked like he was begging for food. I was reading a book and there he was. These are the good guys here because they keep the bug and rodent population down. Think I’ll call him Herman.

Aww, give Herman my best! Non poisonous snakes are not too bad to have around, especially if they keep the insects and mice under control.

as long as they're harmless and i know they're harmless i'm ok with it. lol! i had a little lizard that would come up on the porch at my old place back home. skittish little thing but cute as a button. no idea what he was.

When we first moved into our house, there were mountains around us & I occasionally saw snakes in our yard. When I came home from school, my dad told me to look at a snake he killed & tell him what kind it was. It was a harmless California King - decapitated with a shovel.
Now, with more development & less mountains, I only get to see lizards & the 4 Raccoons I feed at night.

When I was a kid we caught garter snakes. I took one home and called him Herman as well. I guess snakes just look like a Herman.

Now if only I can stop the neighbors from killing them. In 20 years we’ve lived here, I’ve only seen one bad boy, a Coral snake.
