My Honorary Son's Love Bird Had A Stroke

Honorary Son #3 has two love birds which he keeps in separate cages, but the cages are right next to each other. He's had Birdie for 14 or 15 years. About 3 months ago, she had a stroke. Every time I go over for his Saturday broadcast, I go speak to the birds, but didn't notice the following until two weeks ago. I was looking at Birdie and her little head was turned sideways. I asked HS#3 was that normal for her to keep her head that way for so long. He said "Remember I told you three months ago that she had a stroke?" I swear I don't remember him telling me that. He said she had even started flying sideways. He doesn't let them out when I'm there.

I never thought about the possibility that birds could have that kind of health issue. The vet told him just to watch her and luckily didn't recommend anything radical. As of a week ago, her head is returning to its normal position and activity wise, she's getting back to normal. Have you ever heard of birds having strokes?

Most birds we deal with don't live as long as parrots. So, seeing a stroke in them is pretty slim.

I don't see it not being a possibility. They can experience many of the same diseases we do. The concern is why did she have the stroke? And is there a high chance of her suffering another?

I agree. When I was younger I had some finches but didn’t have them long enough to have such health issues. Parrots live a long time. I hope he figures out what’s going on with it or takes it back in to see the vet.
