My Only Belief

Are you feeling bad, struggling with pain and fatique? That is normal at your age. Please don't give up, you have so much to offer to us, your family and friends. I know it may be hard, that you may be tired but you have so much to share, to teach people younger than you.

You will not cease to exist now or in the future. You will always be alive in any child or grandchild and for the generations to come after them. We all make a difference now and in the future. It maybe in stories 100 years from now but we are remembered and passed on to future generations of family and community.

I think you are having a bad spell. You need to sit back and realize what a difference you have made to the world, the life of others. You might appreciate things a whole different way! Sending best wishes for a happy holiday and new years!!!

Mitch88 " I believe that we are created from a sperm cell and an egg cell and at the end we simply cease to exist ".

That is certainly one possibility among a myriad of others. I have spent many years thinking about this and enjoy doing so. I have come to an opinion that I can live with. Anything I can think of could be a possibility. I may not know the answer for sure right now but I may find the answer when I pass. Then again if I just cease to exist I may never know the answer. I still like thinking about it though. I like the saying "don't sweat the small stuff and it is all small stuff'. Happy Trails.

The atoms that make up who "we" are don't cease to exist.
They are dispersed and combined with other atoms that were
not "us" and create new sperm and egg cells, among other things.
The end that we call death is actually the beginning of a new apportioning.

So while we won't exist in our present state after death, we'll still
carry on in some form or other, or so I believe. Thanks for sharing.

I believe that we are created from a sperm cell and an egg cell and at the end we simply cease to exist.

I suspect you’ve left a few out. How about the solidity of the ground beneath your feet? I put my trust in that. Also I believe there was a yesterday and that my memories are mostly accurate. Pretty sure there will be a tomorrow too whether or not I’m still around. I also believe in the reality of other minds. The people I meet are as real as I am from the inside.

But I also hold controversial beliefs. I think life is wonderful and nature is awe inspiring. Beauty is rampant though there is plenty enough else to make that a meaningful concept. I believe how we treat others directly effects our own happiness. I believe in enough free will to recognize situations where I have more or less of it and enough determinism to have faith in abiogenesis and evolution too.

The matter that makes you still exists because matter can neither be created or destroyed which is called conservation of matter. Cremation results in a pile of ashes and that is still you in a different form. That's why I want my ashes to return to the earth to be re-purposed eventually. Any smoke from cremation can rise to the heavens to satisfy any spirituality if it exists.

Time and space are intrinsic to our sense of duality. As we think, be; we create time.

“Sages have offered enlightenment into the realm of duality with the saying…

“Your truth is truth, my truth is truth, but your truth is not necessarily my truth.”

Understanding and being aware of duality is vital to our human experience, as it allows us to see things from ‘both sides of the coin’ and better understand ourselves and others amid the collective.

Most individual’s version of ‘truth’ culminates according to their past and current experiences, social conventions, and worldly views.

To put it simply, duality is the nature in which everything holds opposing truths — all of which are true — at least in a relative sense.

Just like there’s two sides to a coin — both of which much be present for it to be considered ‘valid’ — duality has two sides, and denying either one of those sides would invalidate the existence of the other.

* Good/Bad
* Light/Darkness
* Happiness/Sadness
* Piety/Evil
* Yin/Yang
* Willfulness/Denial

We cannot delete one side without deleting the other side, so we have to live by accepting duality as what opens up the doorway to all truths for us.”

@Mitch86

What you share, what everyone shares, is meaningful truth, yet not my truth, yet [all] are “relative truths” as they indeed are sincere statements of SF members… However, the only absolute truth is, as you say: “that we are created from a sperm cell and an egg cell.”

By the way, I appreciate this post/thread. A beautiful mingling of differing perspectives!
