My suffering continues--sinuses are killing me.

This month is just a little more than half over and I have had to deal with snow and ice, a power outage Arctic cold, leading to a frozen pipe and no water, normally you know that I don't complain but this month is the worst that I can remember. So, if you are inclined to pray, pray for me; if not comfort me with bills of large denominations...

I know what you mean, Ralphy. It has also been un-normally cold here in PA as well. Today, we go back up to near 50, but rain and melting snow, which will mean black ice at night. I also had a sinus infection for about a month and finally went to the doctor and got an antibiotic that ended it. I have a home in Florida, but my work requires me to be here. I am giving up my pilot's license shortly, so perhaps next winter I will spend in Florida. Giving up my license is going to be hard on me. I haven't planned anything to do to replace that void in my life.

As I state in another thread,my sister is seeing great results with acupuncture treatments for her sinus issues.

Ralphy, sorry you're having such a lousy time now. Sometimes things just seem to pile on, don't they? Sending you hugs, good thoughts, prayers and whatever else you need. No bills of large denominations, though -- I don't have those.

Hey Ralph, when you say your sinuses are killing you, what exactly do you mean? Are you saying that you're always stuffed up and can't breathe just generally or do you have a really bad cold or what?

Thanks for your concerns and interest. It is a cold that spread to the sinuses. I haven't been sick in years, as I don't go out that much, especially to enclosed spaces for any period of time, so this cold really knocked me, out and still persists though seem to giving way to the efforts of my Doctor, Doctor Web...

If the weather is cold Ralphy, wrap up well
and go for a walk round the block, the cold
air will kill the cold germs.

Mike.

So sorry to hear that. Seems like colds and such knock us flat a lot more than when we were young eh? The only reason I asked was because if it was just general stuffiness that never goes away, I was going to offer what worked for me, but this 'cold' thing is beyond my level of expertise :playful:. But I know what you mean about the problem migrating. I had a flu once that migrated into my eye muscles and for about two weeks or more, I was seeing double all the time. Total nuisance. Couldn't drive, had trouble walking......Hope you get well sooner rather than later Ralph.

Oh your freezing weather over there seems to be never ending Ralphy ,why not come on a trip to Aust that will clean out you sinuses ..30c today 40+ on weekend ..
I hate being "locked" up inside all winter but we don't have snow so we can still get out when we want to
We also "escape" up to Queesland for a month of the winter, their winter daytime temps are in low 20c where South Aust is on average 9-12
We stocked up with wood for our heater a few days ago ,Seems a bit silly stocking up in summer ,but we are wondering if we will get a really cold winter? After hearing about the freezing conditions O/S
Contractors were cutting down trees in town and we were silly enough to ask what they wanted for the wood ..we ended up with about 10 tone of wood in our little back yard ..so we are guaranteed to be warm this coming winter..

Humidity and moisture along with clean sinuses are the key. A saline or salt water spray used regularly to clean moisturize the sinus linings in critical. Dry linings crack and are open to infection and irritation and more infection. I sniff a quarter tea spoon of salt in a cup of warm water a day and have cut down problems in half over the years. Doctors have told me dry and probably irritated sinuses cause most infections.

Hey, Debby -- what was it that worked for you? I have the continually stuffed up problem.

i had started experiencing nose bleeds beforehand which should have warned me that I was setting myself up for an infection. Definitely on to inhaling steam and warm water laced with salt which seems to be bringing some relief and a hopeful cure shortly. Thanks, again, for your interest and concern and keep your sinuses misted!

Hi Butterfly,

I had a stuffy nose constantly, and after years of that, suddenly developed thrush(?) in my throat which added painful swallowing all the time. So after doing a bunch of reading, I decided to try this:

I cut out ALL sugar including fruit. I also cut way back on starchy foods. Then I bought a bottle of probiotics (live culture I think they call it) and initially I doubled up on the already high dosage for about two weeks and then cut back to the normal dosage for another two or three weeks. I actually was doing it for the sore throat because thrush is a yeast and what I had read for some reason suggested to me, that it might work.

And amazingly enough, the painful white patches disappeared from my throat AND I could breathe! It was like a new lease on life. So amazing to finally be able to breathe. I kept specifically noticing it because it felt like such a new experience. That was six years ago and the stuffiness has never returned. I think that probably I picked up a mold or a yeast spore at some point when we first got our horses and I was always hauling around dusty hay and it got into my sinuses and set up housekeeping. Anyway, after about six weeks of avoiding the sugars, I started allowing a little back into my diet but it helped me get over my appetite for it so we're still careful now.

So give it a shot and see if it works, which I truly hope it will and it certainly can't hurt you.
