My younger brother, 78 has dementia

AZ Jim

R.I.P. With Us In Spirit Only
We talk on the phone as he is in California. He called today and it is so sad to watch him slip. We talked about our Dad and he had such a hard time recalling details of the subject. The one thing we both do share and he remembers is we love one another.

I'm so sorry, Jim. It's hard to see our loved ones slip away into dementia. Just keep reminiscing with him and cling to what you have.
I find it difficult to understand why nature has to be so hard on we older folks. We paid the bills, fought the wars, raised or kids and were good citizens of our countries...why can't we seem to catch a break? Forgive my melancholy mood!

Yep, growing old is not for sissys! Sorry to hear about your brother. :love_heart:

Sorry to hear about your brother Jim, it must be very sad to see his memory decline. When I speak with my sister about things that happened when we were young, either she or I will not recall a lot of things the other one does. It's either bad memory or selective memory in our case, nothing as serious as dementia. He remembers the most important thing though, that you both love each other, and that means a lot....hugs.

Thanks guys. We were always tight as kids and it kinda lifts him when we have a long chat. He has a wonderful wife who stands by him.

I can sympathise with you Jim, it’s heartbreaking to watch a loved one suffer with dementia, I’m sure your brother gets great comfort from talking with you about the past and, as you say, knowing you love each other

So sorry to hear this. I have had close relationships with two people who had this disease. Please talk with him as much as you can. You will not regret it.

My older sister has dementia and is in a Memory Care Home. She is 85 and this began about 10 years ago. She is not the same person anymore. My mother also had A.D. and lived to 92.

I'm sorry this is happening to your brother. If possible, you should visit him before he forgets who you are.

I'm sorry Jim. It's very hard to have dementia and very hard to watch someone you love progress with it. My grandmother had it.
