Growing up was a mixed time for me. Years after my dad’s death, I came to realize my dad was narcissistic which explains much of his behavior when he was alive. My dad was a Southern Baptist preacher, church leaders, priest, holy men, clergy etc seem attract narcissistic males who consider themselves as the chosen one, or special above all others. Religion is a perfect setting for narcissistic leaders. Preachers are thought to be above reproach, godly, perfect and so on. Religion is the perfect job for narcissistic clergymen to feed their need for adoration.

Surprisingly, God, Jesus or salvation was never discussed at home while growing up. My parents main concern was that I attend church. Perhaps to make my dad look good?

This! So, so much of the time. I think most people attempt at least some of the time to maintain a humble heart but a lot of those guys don't seen to even try at all. And of course, it's not just the religious industry this kind of person is attracted to but a lot become CEOs, politicians, celebrities, military generals, etc.
