National Buzzard’s Day - March 15th

Our local Turkey Vulture has been back for some time...counted
about 20 of them flying last week....

I love all wildlife, including the lowly buzzard. I've seen them around my apartment complex. Also wild turkeys in my town.

This morning while feeding the cats a large flock of ducks or, probably, geese flew over. It was dark so they looked light. I hadn't seen a good sized flock like that in years.

We nursed an injured buzzard one time. By the time he healed, he would come a running when the wife fed him.
Interesting factoid... Geeez, buzzards would eat dead rotting flesh, but wouldn't touch a hot dog. Kinda telling ain't it?

They live here year round, and I have a sky full of them coasting almost every day. One day I even hd a truck grill full of one when it flew up out of the ditch at a bad time.

The buzzard is a totally different bird in Europe. The pictures look more like Vultures to me.

This is the Buzzard that is common in the UK...

This canny buzzard has bagged two for the price of one !

I think that's an Osprey, also called a fish hawk. Buzzards (Buteo buteo) tend to feed on carrion, but will hunt small mammals, and birds. In summer, I often see them circling over the fields, gliding on the thermals. They have a 'mewing call' - a little like a cat's.
