Happy Catfish Day, I've got a great homemade catfish bait. You need a bowl of Turkey Livers, a bottle of garlic salt, and an empty coffee can.
Trim the liver into hook-size pieces, place a layer of Garlic salt in the bottom of the coffee can, add a layer of livers, another layer of salt then livers then salt, repeat layers. Put your lid on and set it aside somewhere to age at least a month. Makes a great bait.

One of my favorite freshwater fish. Fun to catch, great to eat. Saltwater cats not so much.
Unfortunately the word has taken on a new, and not very nice, meaning of late. No reflection on the actual fish though.

I fished these and enjoyed eating them. For years, I kept asking at the seafood counter if they'd have any but always the reply, "don't know what you're asking about..." Argh!
Finally, I found out recently what is the proper name for this wonderful fish here:

So, I'm enjoying some catfish afterall. The biggest one I caught with Papa's rod was in 1968 and the catfish weighted 20lbs. That was a meal to feed 13 relatives. Yummy!
