I bought a lenovo laptop awhile ago and I find that my Canon will not iterface wih it. On the computer the ports are too small to accept the original cord ends that go with the camera. Also, the computer does not have a port for the original SDS card. Do I need to buy a new camera or find an adapter to interface the two?

The camera is a beuaty and I love it. Beenusing it up until 3 yrs ago when I gor this Lenovo.
Thanks all.

Check if both your camera and your laptop have USB slots, if they do, you need a double-ended USB cable. My Lenovo laptop does not have a card slot so I use a USB cable or I connect via WiFi/Bluetooth (if your camera has that). Alternatively, look for a USB connected card reader, plug the card reader in and insert your card into the card reader rather than the laptop.

I did both of what you suggested and nothing fits into the slots on my laptop.

I thought of that but since I don't own a car and can barely walk, I think that won't work....

Contact the company you bought the laptop from, explain the situation, and they should be able to tell you where and which adaptor to buy.

Knowing so little about computers, I hired a tech highly recommended to come here ---so we talked and he returned with this Lovoto. I assumed it would be built to accept my Canon but I was wrong. I have no idea where he got it....I am going to try calling lovoto tomorrow and see if I can get some help.

That sounds like a good idea.

Which model is your Canon Camera? Here's the response from AI:

which cable you need depends entirely on the exact Canon model. Canon has used three different USB connector types over the past decade, and 5‑year‑old models typically fall into one of two categories.
Here’s the practical breakdown so you can identify the right cable quickly.
šŸ”Œ The three Canon USB connector types (last ~10 years)

Most Canon cameras from the past decade use one of these:
  • USB Mini‑B — older DSLRs (Rebel T3/T5/T6/T7, 60D/70D/80D, 6D, 5D Mark II/III, etc.)
  • USB Micro‑B (USB 2.0) — mid‑generation mirrorless and some DSLRs (M50, SL3, 90D, Rebel T8i, etc.)
  • USB‑C — newer mirrorless (R‑series, G7X Mark III, etc.)
Your Lenovo laptop will accept any of these via USB‑A or USB‑C, so the only thing that matters is the camera‑side connector.

To give you the exact cable:
Tell me the Canon model printed on the front of the camera
(e.g., Rebel T6, EOS 80D, PowerShot SX70, EOS M50, etc.)
Once I have that, I’ll tell you:
  • the exact connector type
  • the correct cable name (Canon IFC‑xxx)
  • whether a generic cable works or if Canon‑branded is safer
  • the cheapest reliable options
If you want a quick guess right now
Most Canon cameras from 2018–2021 use USB Mini‑B or USB Micro‑B, not USB‑C.
But give me the model and I’ll lock it in precisely.

Thanks so much for this info. I am going to dig out my camera tomorrow and try what you sent to me. I wish all settings could be universal.
