Neighbors from H**LL and their animals

This thread is a continuation of the discussion in the Feb. How was your day thread, regarding neighbors and their animals and antics.

Let me say one of the major reasons that we ended up in the country, and as remote as we could manage is because of our next door neighbors in Texas. They were literally neighbors from hell with their animals which at any given time ranged from 7-9 Great Pyrenees dogs in a small 50x50 back yard. For those of you unfamiliar with the GP breed, they are huge hairy white dogs bred for guarding livestock. They have a long dense thick coat, suitable for cold mountain terrain, certainly not a Texas backyard in the summer. Of course, they have a herding instinct and bark a lot.

When these people moved in the woman mentioned they were going to get a dog, which they did. A large Newfoundland mix, followed by a border collie mix, followed soon after by the Pyrenees one by one for a couple of years until their collection reached 9 dogs.

Our lives were totally governed by their dogs time schedule. Let out in the morning at 5:30 to bark until 7:00 when they went to work. Out again at 4-5 pm when they returned, to bark until 10:00 when they went to bed. When the woman lost her job they barked from 5:30 am until they decided to go to bed at night.

We awakened to their schedule, we went to sleep on their schedule, we stopped entertaining by our beautiful back yard with pool, that we had spent mucho $$$ to make a haven that we could enjoy after work and entertain on the weekends. No dice with 7 dogs barking non-stop at the fence every time we or the dogs stepped out the door, this was no longer an enjoyable experience for us or our guests.

This went on for almost ten years until we decided we had enough and moved. Each time a dog died they replaced almost the next day with another one. No amount on nice talk, which escalated into more stern request to curtail the barking. then to reporting to a useless City Animal Control was effective. They were very belligerent about it, and to hell with the neighbors.

I talked to one of my former neighbors yesterday, and this is still going on over 2 years later. I understand why some people are driven to go postal...you would not believe the thoughts and fantasies that went through my head at times,

and had I not been a relatively grounded and stable person, who know what might have happened.
To compound the situation, I worked in a large vet clinic that had a 100 run kennel and I listened to dogs bark all day, then the whole time I was home as well, never any relief from the barking.

Our biggest fear was that we would not be able to sell our house when prospective buyers came to look. The neighbor on the other side of them asked them to put the dogs in the house when they were showing the house, trying to sell..This highly offended them, her comment was "Like they won't figure out we have dogs when they move in."

Soooo glad to be in the country where our nearest neighbor is an old fellow of 85 that lives a mile down the road.....Happy dance!!!

Do you have any neighbor war stories?

Just that there are only 18 homes on this 3 mile stretch of Deliverance-looking road------------------one of which is a rental and only 12 feet (literally) from our boundary on the NW side.

We bought the 9.7 acres that was attached to that house because so many people moved in and out that dump, including a kid with dreadlocks whose license plate said "Gotti" How can you be Black and think you want to be part of the Italian Mob Family that was ruled by John Gotti, who died in prison?

We couldn't afford to buy that house and the once acre still left with it, so people came and went. The next to the last being a 3X sex offender. He got his third offense while having a visitor IN JAIL. When his visitor left, he dropped his pants at the person coming in to see her jailbird, which was not him - lol

I did not know about the first three convictions, until AFTER I got him arrested for what turned out to be the fourth sex offense conviction.

He got his fourth conviction last summer because I'd had a belly full of him standing buck nekkid in the side door watching me mow the barnyard. I had already started strapping my pistol to me, every time I went to the barn --- boy is that fun when you have to bend over and rasp a hoof but I wasn't taking chances.

I also told Mr. TWHRider the yard between his workshop and that house could grow to the roof, if he didn't start mowing over there.

I had already alerted my other neighbor, who is a county deputy and told me "to do what I need to do to protect myself". He started watching the house and by golly he caught the guy running nekkid from the house to the little shed 50' feet away. The judge levied a 10K bail on the guy, which is the highest they have ever done such an offense, because they knew he couldn't come up with the required 10%.

I've had some idiot neighbor's in my life but this guy was made of stuff you see on the ID channel. His mother had even moved in with him and his wife to watch him while his wife went to work, yet he managed to still stand nekkid in the side door every time I had to mow.

And just ask me if I would've had what it takes to pull that gun if he showed up in my barn. While I haven't shot a gun in a few years, I come from a hunting family and I started shooting target since I was 14----------------------------------

As the song goes, "that's my story and I'm stickin' to it"

Wow, what an uneasy feeling to live with. I am very thankful that there are only 4 other houses on my road, all occupied by owners and they are good people. One cabin is a retreat for a guy living in Little Rock who seldom comes here. He is actually our nearest neighbor. It is definitely a chance you take living in the country that you are going to encounter some strange people. I am worried what will happen with the place where my old 85 year old neighbor lives, when he goes. There are a lot of druggers in this area, and I hope one doesn't end up there.

When we had our tree cut down last week the tree guy's helper asked why we had a surveillance camera sign on our gate. This was an immediate red flag as he kinda looked the part, if you know what I mean. He was scanning around the property as he asked. I told him it was because we live so far out that sheriff response time is long and we take care of our own down here in the holler. He got kind of an apprehensive look on his face and said "Oh". End of conversation.

The surveillance camera sign is next to the one that says "You can have my guns when I run out of bullets".

TWH sounds like someone err uh, needs to throw a match in the door of that place and shut it.

I know exactly what you mean about folks quietly lookin' around at stuff they shouldn't be looking at. Another reason my minimum dog weight requirement is 75 lbs, preferably 100 lbs - lol lol

You don't know how many times I've told Mr. TWH and deputy's father (also a neighbor) to stop making jokes about that. Wouldn't that be too cute if the deputy son had to make an arrest:daz:

A real estate agent owns that stupid 1950's, pieced-together-molly-cobbled-cottage and thinks it and the one acre are worth 65K. I pointed out to him that I know what he paid for the whole ball of wax at the foreclosure auction and what it cost him to "remodel" the d**n thing. He has made 200% + profit off that place. I keep hoping someone's space heater will catch the place on fire, just as long as they get out. The kids in there now, are really nice and the baby is about a year old by now. If they would just fix their animals:culpability:

We live in a suburban type neighborhood, and have neighbors very close on either side of us. Thankfully we have an open space wildlife area behind us, and no neighbors there. We'd both like to live in a more secluded area, that would be ideal.

Only had some barking dogs come and go over the years. There was a Golden Retriever next door that comes to mind, he had a loud, endless and wild bark, and although he had access to a doggy door, he liked to go non-stop early mornings and late at night in particular. None of us could go into our backyard without him freaking out. Other than that, there's some rental homes by us that have some undesireables coming and going, but luckily they seem to be short-term. Haven't had any pervs or flashers, though...not sure how I'd handle that, not very well I imagine!

I guess what I don't understand about the endless barking dogs, is how does that not drive the owners crazy? How can you sit in your house while your dog is barking non-stop, to the point where neighbors are complaining and it doesn't bother you? I have tried to figure out this phenomena and just can't get my head around it.
I have been plagued by barking dogs in 3 out of the last 5 homes we owned. My neighbor before the last one had several hunting dogs. He kept them in pens right under his bedroom window, and he swore their barking never woke them up. How do you not hear a pack of hounds barking right under your window?
The neighbor next to him had a Golden Retriever that they would let out to roam all night. His routine was to go visit the hunting dogs and stir them up, then make his way to my house, chase the cats then go to the front of my house and sit in the yard and bark at the moon.

I complained to his owner several times, with no results. Finally, at 3 in the morning I took the phone to the front door and called his owner. I asked him if he was asleep and he said yes. I said, good for you because I'm not. Do you hear this dog barking (holding the phone at the dog). That's your dog and you better come and get him because this is the last time I will call you. That pretty much put an end to that.

Seriously, I think I would rather have the flasher, at least I assume he was quiet..LOL

LOL, Ozark! I guess they block them out...I dunno! I couldn't take it! If I couldn't shut my own dog(s) up, I would at least bring him/them inside...for everyone's sake! Guess the flasher would be less noisy...at least you could look the other way. :playful:

Ozarkgal, that is how Kara my rescued Dobe/Rott ended up being a house dog. She used to patrol the property boundaries at night and would "go off" anywhere from 11:00 PM to the wee hours. She would not shut her mouth.

When a dog barks on this hill at two in the morning, I swear it echos clear into town, so that's when she became a house dog because I couldn't stand to hear all that.

I'd like to know how the owners put up with it because I sure can't. Maybe they wear ear plugs and that means they have no concern or respect for their neighbors.

I think they just turn up the TV or stereo volume in the daytime to drown them out, not sure about night, ear plugs, sleeping pills, put a 1/2 load on, lol! They definitely are inconsiderate of others. I've seen violators who have secretly been taped on shows like Animal Cops, that absolutely deny that their dog barks excessively...or at all.

Every place I've ever lived in town has always involved one neighbor or more that were aholes. This place here has a noisy neighbor in the other side of the duplex. She don't like me no more. *Grins* We had some folks who would put their dogs out in the middle of the night during a snow storm for 2 hrs to bark outside my bedroom window. Got that taken care of finally.

Then for nearly 4 yrs I've had to deal with the neighbor down the alley with his kid and his friends on 4 wheelers running up and down the alley at high speeds at all hrs and ripping into my yard and they would do this off and on all day long! Might have finally gotten that taken care of. *fingers crossed*

Teehee......"Neighbor war stories, eh?" I only have one, but it was quite an adventure.

When I got married in 1980, we bought a house in a "quiet" neighborhood. We couldn't have known that our next-door neighbors were drug dealers. We figured we had nothing to do with them, so....who cares? Like hell!
I'm relaxing one evening & a loud motorcycle parks in front. I watch a guy around 6'10" & at least 400 lbs walk up to my front door & he starts pounding on it - really pounding, the whole wall is shaking.

Without opening the door (of course), I ask "Who is it?"

He yells, "Open the f-----g door or I'll break it down."

I grabbed my 12 Gauge, went back to the door & chambered a round (makes a loud noise) & yelled, "Did you hear that?"

He says, "Yeah, & I don't give a f--k......nobody rips me off."

That gave me a clue - he mistook my house for my next-door neighbor's house where he felt they ripped him off on a drug deal.

I said, "You don't want to die for nothing; you got the wrong house; your dealers are next door....leave while you're still breathing."

A few minutes later, police swarmed the whole block & arrested everyone in the house.

Wow! Some of you REALLY have neighbors from hell!!!! Our’s seem saint like in comparison, but....
We live in an apartment with pretty long term neighbors. Luckily for us the above us neighbors have always been wonderful, quiet, etc. As well as the ones beside us. So no problems there. But this summer We befriended a young man (well, young by my standards, probably late 30’s early 40’s, who lives on the other end of the apt building. He would come and sit with us on the patio last summer. Seemed nice. Mother had recently died and he lived there with his father. Anyway, one day, he very humbly asked if he could borrow some money until pay his pay day the following week. Unexpected expenses had caught him short so of course we were more than willing to help him out with $100 or something like that. (QUIT ROLLING YOUR EYES 😂). He payed us back the following week and all was fine. Then a few weeks later he knocked on our door and asked again. I was so disappointed in him but gave him the benefit of the doubt with another, much smaller, amount. Paid back, and again fine. So time goes on and he is now at our door every other week. I told him we couldn’t help him anymore since I quit working. That didn’t stop him so the next time I told him firmly, but nicely, that wouldn’t be helping and to please quit asking. That still hasn’t stopped him and I’m to the point where I just don’t answer the door anymore. Our fault, I realize that, but it’s starting to make me angry and even a little afraid now and I don’t know how to stop it anymore. Is it harassment? Do I call the police? The building manager? Any ideas???
