Netflix Suggestions?

Okay as soon as my girl learns to look up titles on Netflix...believe me she has it figured out better...I can't even turn the TV on. I'm trying to think of some other shows and movies we can watch together. If it was up to her it would be all Monster High and Disney woooof.

Keeping in mind she is fifteen, maybe cognitively nine or ten. She isn't sheltered, she hears incredibly course stuff when her brother is online with his buddies and it just goes over her head. She enjoyed OINB tremendously. One movie I'm thinking of is "La Bamba". It's easy to break it down...


There's this guy Richie and he loves this girl Donna but she's white and he's Mexican and in the old days they couldn't be together easily. But he's a singer and he really loves her. Then his plane crashes and it's sad. But there's a lot of really good music.


That's exactly how I explained it to her. We looked at "Wentworth" and that was a bit dark for her. We don't want something with violence. If people get too frisky we can fast forward or ignore but not graphic violence. Some suggestions for other series or movies we can watch together?
 

One of my coping mechanisms for the "glooms" is Beverly Hills Chihuahua. There are two of them on Netflix -- they would be quite suitable and are actually quite funny. There's even a kind pitbull in there, Fur. He's been the friend and cohort of "Papi" since Papi was a pup. The voiceovers are great and the doggie actors are wonderful.

Lemme look at the list and I can find a couple more for you that are adult and kid friendly.
 
Okay yes, keep the suggestions coming. Like I said Disney and Monster High and zzzzzzz but something with a story and/or cute dogs we can watch together:D
 

Excellent kids movie with French sub-titles that I enjoyed immensely was Nicholas on Holiday, also watched 101 Dalmations with Glenn Close recently. These are good for my psyche when I'm feeling unsettled.
 
I agree with the Shrek recco. Also, Ratatouille. (The latter is a cartoon, set in France, but was even recommended by Viking River Cruises to get to know France).
 
Fur, Netflix has a directory by categories - they have one entitled Children & Family. Loads of funny movies, many with animals. Happy watching!
 
Thanks everybody, I'm going to go low tech and write a list of good picks. Oh one I just remembered was Bubble Boy. I have to see if that exists. We used to have it on video tape. It stars a very young Jake Gyllenhaal and is silly fun.
 
Pretty sure Bubble Boy is on Netflix. Also, those "Bud" movies about the Golden Retriever puppies.

There's also a search by title feature on Netflix, where you can see if a movie you want to see is on Netflix.
