Nevada...Dumpsite for Hazardous Materials?

This isn't new but the current stated plan is
All this nuclear waste was supposed to go down in the bowels of Yucca Mountain. That's been a hot topic since the late 90's, I believe; part of which is referenced at the bottom of the above link.
Federal funding for that angle of the disposal project was lost a few years back.
The tragedy of all this, is that somebody, somewhere will have all these nuclear waste containers somewhere near them. And Lord Help when the containers start to deteriorate and leak into the ground. They sure can't be dumped into the ocean. The nuclear waste containers put a whole new meaning into Pandora's Box.
Somehow, some way, I had heard rumors they government thought of burying them somewhere in Tennessee but it looks like that brilliant idea got put in the back closet shelf.
Ugly ugly situation for whomever ends up being stuck with the containers.

I recall reading (sorry, don't have the source handy) awhile back about the great money-making scheme some governors were dealing inorder to attract the waste for storage in their states. Disgusting.
