A new strain of the coronavirus that's been spreading rapidly in the United Kingdom may already be here in the United States, doctors are warning. The variant in the U.K. has spurred at least 40 countries to close their borders to the island nation.

People travel across borders and oceans with great frequency, unintentionally bringing nasty little hitchhikers along.

Six months ago virtually all credible epidemiologists and virologists predicted the emergence of mutant strains as well as dire virus levels in the population during fall/winter 2020.

Sad to say, they were right on the money about both.
