I am just reading the information about the 7.8 earthquake that happened along the Iran-Pakistan border area. Reports of damages appear to still be coming in, but the reports vary from a few, to 140 dead.
What is amazing, is that a small island, around 100' wide, apparently rose out of the ocean about 350' offshore.
There does not seem to be much info about this yet. The YouTube videos all pretty much just show the same picture of the island that I am posting here. This is the first time ever that an island has just appeared due to an earthquake.

In 1931 Hawke's Bay suffered a 7.9 earthquake one of New Zealand worst disasters. Napier gained quite a bit of land through it rising .

The local landscape changed dramatically, with the coastal areas around Napier being lifted by around two metres.[SUP][4][/SUP] The most noticeable land change was the uplifting of some 40 km² of sea-bed to become dry land. This included Ahuriri Lagoon, which was lifted more than 2.7 metres[SUP][4][/SUP] and resulted in draining 2230 hectares of the lagoon. Today, this area is the location of Hawkes Bay Airport, housing and industrial developments and farmland.

It's an ill wind then eh Fern?

There was a really bad taste joke going around years ago after a rattle in a 3rd world nation that flattened most of a mud hut city. "the earthquake is reported to have done approximately $2m worth of improvements."

Read that gas bubbling up around the island was exploding as the curious lit up cigarettes. HA!
