Hello everyone. I just joined. Hoping this gives me someplace to talk to people online. Gets pretty lonely. I'm 68 and disabled and live alone surrounded by the woods and nature that I love. I live here with my dog Daisy, a Golden Lab that one day 3 years back, showed up on my doctor's porch. My previous girl had died days before and I was very sad. My dr asked me if I wanted to take her and I did. She was about 9 year old when I got her so she's a senior too and my only friend/family. So that's me. Going to start reading all the nice posts here.

Welcome Seniorwoods... I'm almost the same age as you.. and live alone.. where do you live ?

Hi everyone. Thank you so much for welcoming me. Hi Hollydolly, I'm in rural Tennessee, getting ready for a cold night.
Hearlady, I like the scrabble welcome. OldFeller, I'm hoping it will help with lonliness. Would be so nice to have somewhere to talk with people like this.

Getting harder to get things done these days, but today I was proud to finish making a shelter for the feral cats that I feed. People sometimes dump them and they're forced to try and survive in the woods. But I've got 4 regulars so I got a big tote from Walmart, then a slightly smaller one which I put inside that and lined the spaces with straw and made a straw bed for them on the inside.

I'm so sore this evening but very happy because we're getting ready for 20s (F) tonight, then single digits next week. I worry about them out there in the cold so I hope they try it out.

I’ve thought about getting a dog too but don’t know if I’m up to the commitment. I do have lot’s of interest that keeps me busy but it’s still lonely especially being in a very rural place. So I shoot the crap here!

Hi, That's wonderful. I used to have a good number of dogs but now too hard to care for them or I'd certainly have my 'dog family'. They're really great aren't they.

They are my whole world. They are hard to take care of sometimes. The big one, 90lb chow, makes me work everyday just keeping up with his shedding and brushing! LOL

Maybe you could think about adopting a senior dog. Those are passed over mostly at the shelters and they are so sad having lost everything. They're well behaved and will so appreciate you giving them somewhere to be loved. Just know that in the end the scales balance. All the love and joy is paid for by the heartache of loosing them. I don't know if I'd survive loosing my girl. The last time, when my last dog passed, I had none, for the first time in 2 decades and my physical heart actually hurt for a week. It was terrible. but God sent me Daisy a few days later which saved me. When I see my dog, she reminds me of God's Love every time.

My house has so much fur. My couch, ruined from the claws. But I'd not have it any other way. Your Chow sounds wonderful! My last dogs were always Irish Wolfhounds (and 1 Scottish Deerhound).

Welcome from metro Atlanta! I hope you find comfort and humor here. I am a transplant from NY/ New England but have been here for 3 decades. My indoor cat is warm and toasty, but I do worry about a couple of strays I feed. It is going to be in the thirties this week. They do find some refuge under the house.
We all need a little extra support around the holidays.

@SeniorWoods Hi it's nice to meet you here 😊. I live alone as I'm the lone human in my apartment. I do also have a dog and a bird. I figure they are my family.

The little dog 🐕 is a Shihtzu. She's around 12 or 13 or so. Don't really know her exact age because the Animal Protective League only guessed when I got her from them.

She's still going pretty good and no major illnesses. Her hearing and vision aren't as good as years ago but there's no real problem with that yet. She has some arthritis and once in awhile she limps. I see the Vet next week with her and I'm going to see if they can help her arthritis.

The parakeet is going on 6 and a happy active little camper who likes to play with toys, snack on millet, fly around, and eat her gourmet food.

Welcome to Senior Forums! There's plenty of good, nice, and helpful people here. I hope you enjoy it here. Ruth 🍔🍟
