U.S. health officials are urging Americans to get their flu shots this year in the hopes of thwarting a winter “twindemic”—a situation in which both influenza and COVID-19 spread and sicken the public. But a new study suggests that there could be another key reason to get a flu jab this year: it might reduce your risk of COVID-19. The research, released as a preprint that has not yet been peer-reviewed, indicates that a flu vaccine against the influenza virus may also trigger the body to produce broad infection-fighting molecules that combat the pandemic-causing coronavirus.

Privately I’ve felt for a long time that my getting a flu shot every year for maybe 30+ years has boosted my immunity against colds and some of the annoying minor illnesses. Never got “stomach flu”. Almost never lost any work due to respiratory illnesses. One example, after I retired I worked doing taxes for HRB, from early Jan to Mid April for another 10 or so years. People blowing and sneezing at my desk 2’ from my face, and I never caught anything. Washed my hands between clients, wiped down the desk with whatever sanitary product we had. Finally quit end of 2015.
Thanks for sharing that interesting article.

That is good to know. I hadn't heard that. We got ours a few weeks back.

The shots take two weeks to fully kick in. One thought brought out on the ABC channel I saw this news item on is the possibility people that get flu shots every year are more likely to take more and better precautions when it comes to transmission of diseases. But hopefully it does serve to reduce the affects of this murdering disease.

Yes, I hope so. We get ours every September.

Fmdog44, good point about how people getting the shots are more likely to take better precautions in general. Makes sense to me!
