Hello Senior Forum Members,

My name is Dave and happy to join the Senior Forums. I'm retired Navy with 23 years active service. I'm also retired from being an over-the-road truck driver with over 2 million consecutive safe driving miles. I was born and raised in Buffalo, New York now living in the Virginia Beach, Virginia area enjoying retirement. We will be moving into a Retirement Complex 55+ this Saturday and selling our home on Monday. Looking forward to meeting other forum members. :)
 

Welcome aboard! I am also retired Navy and there are many other Vets on this forum.
My wife and I are also looking toward moving into a 55+ facility in the next few years. I am interested in what you looked for before picking the particular complex that you have moved into.

We started looking about 2 years before we made the decision to move. We made many visits to many complexes visiting some of the complexes several times looking for cleanliness in the apartments and the grounds. We took into consideration how we were greeted by the complex employees. We asked people that lived in the complex how do they like living there and what they don't like. We looked at the surrounding neighborhoods for the amount of crime spots. We also looked at reviews not only on Google but other websites. We knew we wanted to stay in the area where we live now due to the retired military benefits (Military Exchanges, Commissary, Free Prescription Drugs, Tricare4Life). I believe and I hope this all will turn out good where we picked to move Saturday.

Where in Buffalo did you grow up? I'm only member of my family who stayed here because of my job.I grew up in the 'Elmwood/Delaware Ave area,I never left the neighborhood.The apt building I've lived in for over 30 yrs is located 3 blocks from my childhood home

Hi moviequeen1. Sorry for the late reply. We sold our home and moved into a retirement complex Saturday. Still trying to get things organized. Boxes up to the ceiling that we have to unpack and just got our internet connected.
I lived in the neighborhood of Clinton and Fillmore Street. I use to hang out in Cheektowaga a lot bowling on many leagues at Thru Way Lanes which is not there anymore.
