Is it me or is it a bit quiet on here.
Not that I want trumpets blowing............

I don't come on the puter every day, but when I do, its mostly in the middle of the night like this post.
I get up to go to the bathroom and if I have trouble falling back asleep, I come on here till I get tired.
The advantages of being retired............ I can do what I want when I want............
 
Thanks everyone for the welcome.. I don't come on the puter every day.. That is probably why you won't get a daily response from me..

We don't live far from the disaster in Elliot Lake.. It has been something else.. A shocking blow to the community.. We did live there for 8 years about 6 years ago, but bought a house where we are now.. Much happier, better, cheaper, and healthier place..
 
Thanks again for the welcome.. Like I said, I don't come on here very often during the summer time as we have a large piece of land that we do lots of work on.. Winter time I am on here all the time...............

The problem is at our age, (39 one more time) we work much slower than we used to and the work is becoming a bit harder.. We also take many more breaks while working......

This past week we (my wife and I) were involved with a lady that lives in Elliot Lake where the roof of the mall fell down and unfortunately killed two ladies we knew very well.. She is OK but extremely shook up.........

You're smart to take breaks when needed, and not to overdo. I figure if you take care of your body, it will take care of you. We all slow down with age, very natural. I'm glad your friend is okay, what tragic news about the roof killing those ladies, so sad. :(
 
Like I said earlier, I don't come on here much during the summer months but I am here daily during the winter...

Boy has it ever been HOT lately. We are still working our land but this heat is really something else. I don't remember a summer like this one in a long time. Not only hot but the humidity is also very high. I seem to be drinking gallons of water daily, but remember what goes in, must come out and that sometimes proves to be a problem.
To make matters a bit worse, are those pesty mosquitoes ever hungry.
The black flies are starving and when they see me, the make a meal out of me.
The deer flies are all nice and fat thanks to me as well. They seem to be the worse.

I don't want you to think I have totally abandoned you by not posting..
On the contrary..
I am really tied up for the next 2 weeks or so as I am in charge of a "Hay Ride-Picnic" that our village is putting on.. This will be on Saturday, Sept. 8th and yours truly is the conveyor of the event..

Hot Dogs in buns with the condiments
Ice cold pop both regular and diet
Ice cold water
Chips
One bite cupcakes
Games for the kids
Games for the adults
Music by a local artist
Face painting and balloons
Family ball game
Hay ride with a team of horses

All this is free to the whole village and paid for by the local council to which I belong (Parks and Recreation)

I am expecting about 300 people.. That means 2 hotdogs per person.. 600 dogs and buns must be cooked and served.. 600 cupcakes.. 400 drinks..
I had to organize a crew to take care of things........
WHO WANTS TO COOK AND SERVE 600 HOTDOGS ???????

Now you know why I am not on here much............
 
Hi Steve, sounds like you're putting on a wonderful event, how nice! Hot dog vendors usually just have the dogs in hot water waiting to be served, and use the buns cold. Likely not the tastiest way, but the easiest. Sounds like you have a lot on your plate (pun intended :p)...so I can see why you're too busy to spend time on the computer.

Hope all goes smooth with the hay-ride/picnic, and everyone has a fun time...good luck with all the prep! :)
 
I contacted our local LEGION branch and they are sending 4 volunteers over to help with the food..

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED !!!!!!!!

I was sort of short of helpers and this will give me a real boost.........


Now, if I can only get someone to follow the horses to use the "poop and scoop" method..
We can then use the droppings for our composter..
 
Yesterday I received a call from the Provincial Police saying they would be delighted to come to the event and bring their obedience dog..
They also mentioned they might bring the K9 dogs to put on a demonstration providing they (the dogs) are not in training..
They also will join in to compete in the "tug of war" against the firemen who will be there with their fire truck.........
 
Awesome! The k9s are always interesting to watch, I'm impressed with all types of service and therapy dogs. :D
 
Just a quick update on my situation..
I have been exceedingly busy lately, however all the excitement seems to be over, for now anyway..

The Hay Ride-Picnic was a HUGE success and we had a fabulous turnout.. Just over 15% of our village turned out considering it is the first time this event is put on.. I will definitely do it again next year but this time I will do it on Labour Day Monday..

We have already had a frost which means our vegetable garden is all over except for some root veggies..
We had an experience this year with a groundhog (woodchuck).. The bugger ate some of our herbs..
Please don't laugh but he cleaned us out of.....................
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme..... Sounds like the song from Simon and Garfunkel..
I had NO choice but to eliminate the critter.. I don't like to do it,.... but,........... He had to go.. He didn't suffer at all.. One shot did it.........

This summer we have been visited by several Black Bears, Foxes, Rabbits, Raccoons, White Tail Deer, Grey Wolves, and Wild Cats.. Not to mention the groundhog.. We generally see that many species of wildlife around us..
We also had a Bald Eagle hang around here for a while.. It actually ate the dead groundhog.........

That's it for now and again, why am I up at this hour ????????
 
Glad to hear it was so successful, and you'll be doing it again. Lol about the Simon and Garfunkel song, old time fav. :) It's tough when you work hard to grow your own plants and herbs, and they are destroyed by animals. I love wildlife though, and am lucky to live in an area where I can frequently see them....no wildcats yet, and coyotes rather than wolves. Canada is so full of beautiful scenery and animals, you are lucky to live there. :cool:
