No Covid Regulations When Big Money Is Involved

Yeah....and we should believe everything they're telling us about everything (including the vaccine). Movie production is OK with catering, no social distancing & no masks. But a small business has to close:

The one that chaps my bottom to no end... Canada allowing CEO's from other countries to come and go at their leisure with no mandatory quarantining attached.

Proves to me what a bunch of hypocrites our governing parties are.

This woman would have a reasonable complaint if every other condition was equal.

Since June, the Directors Guild of America, SAG-AFTRA, IATSE and the Teamsters Union have required that all television and film production teams (including food services crews) are tested for Covid three times a week - some folks need daily testing.

Can she say the same for herself, her employees and her customers?

Sometimes things that look the same are in fact quite different.
Shame on ABC7 for not providing the full story in their report.

Doesn't hold up. There are many cases of Covid in professional sports & all the players & employees are also tested and isolated - even more stringently than movie production.

Not sure why you're dragging professional sports into the equation.

I was merely pointing out the restrictions on movie & tv production companies which are dramatically stricter than those imposed on bars and restaurants. Thus, although it may seem that this woman was comparing apples to apples, she was in fact, not.

Obviously I feel terrible for her. As an owner of a small business that was destroyed nearly overnight by the passage of NAFTA, I understand the anger and frustration of losing business due to policy decisions that are out of your control.

One of many examples of the unreliability of Covid testing. And hypocrisy.

No surprise. Money overrides common sense in many instances
Sure does.
And speaking of common sense, Indoor dining is not OK. But dining in a big tent outside is OK.
So....we're supposed to believe a virus knows we're technically outside, but under an airtight tent. And....uh.....Covid hates tents, so viruses wouldn't dare come in.

Not to inject facts into the equation, but those tents are fully open air on all sides. They have overhead canopies only.

I agree with @StarSong the restaurant owner is comparing apples to oranges. The production team on a film is a closed system. They know everyone associated with the film and who is going to be on location. Although I don't know this they probably also have rules regarding their providers so that they know who will be working on location or delivering on location. They also probably have rules regarding what people working on the film and working for the film can and cannot do before they can work on or for the file.

With a set of known people and knowing about their activities it is much easier to prevent infections.

A restaurant only has their employees as known entities and anyone off the street can come in and infect the staff who can infect other people. There is also no guarantee that someone who visited the restaurant is going to mention that if they turn out to be infected.

It does take money to create such an environment, so I do agree that money allows one to have less restrictive conditions.

I watched this on TV. I can't help but feel bad for those who have lost jobs, livelihood's in the restaurant and hospitality industry. I only work part time but I'm grateful to be an essential worker.
