No lawnmowers at local hardware

They usually have them all lined up outside as well as a small display inside the store. I stopped by today on my way to meal delivery and didn't see any. I inquired and was told, "We haven't put them out yet." What are they waiting for? With the warm, wet weather we've been having, I've seen people's lawns where the grass looks almost a foot long already.

I went looking for rototillers a month ago. Places that once carried them have stopped. They are on the internet, but no place locally had them.

The stores around me here in Ohio have had mowers out front for weeks now, maybe you need to check other stores.

Deb does this mean you're going to buy a mower and start cutting your own lawn? I know you've struggled the last couple of years finding a reliable mowing service.

this is what happened here... it started like that.. big things stopped being sold in the stores, so you had to buy them online, and then smaller things got cheaper online ( say like screws and small tools ).... and so independent stores closed down, leaving only the big box stores. Now even the big box stores have shelves which are empty compared to just a few years ago because they have a huge percentage of their stock online...why..?.. because it's the way to get the country using only digital payments.. and to be completely removed of cash !

The hardware store seems to be under new management. I didn't recognize any of the personnel. One person that came across as a head clerk started asking me what I wanted in a mower and how much lawn I had. I said I has about a third of an acre and wanted a walk-behind gas mower. He shook his head and said something to the effect - with that size lawn, you'd be better off with an electric riding mower. I said I didn't have the space to store a riding mower. Then he saw some other customers and left me to talk to them, so I left the store.

You were a shopper not a buyer.

Similar here. If it cuts grass it is in the stores from manual pushers to riding mowers for acreage and everything else. No such thing as empty shelves, on line only or limited choices.

How can a person make an informed purchase unless that shop around first - they need information? That's no excuse to leave me in mid-sentence.
Yep, that's very bad customer service.

Do all your research online, you can Google search "best push mower for a third of an acre". A rechargeable battery mower may indeed be a good option for you, no pull start and no fuel to haul and store. Though I've never used one so can't give first hand experience.

What a strange neighborhood to live in. Homes established for 15 years or more & those with grass a foot long never bought lawnmowers before?
Makes it seem like lawn mower sellers saw no purchases so not having a lawn mower inventory just in case there was a buyer makes sense.
