No Record of Truly Ancient Humans?

What if we live in a great, great, grandchild society? Atop the ashes of several before ours?

In the West we came through the Dark Ages, and other parts of the world have seen their own. But maybe those were mere blips compared to bigger events?

What about The Flood? Sinking of Atlantis? Think of Australia and the natives' Deep Time legends. Forgotten things beneath the seas that show large scale human action when ocean levels were clearly lower. Göbekli Tepe, and now even earlier remnants being found around them.

Then imagine even larger-scale catastrophes, that have all but erased what went before?

The "lost children" survivors, eking out an existence and rebuilding with or without the rubble of the ancestors. How many high civilizations have we lost, most not leaving enough for us to even figure out that they were ever there?
