No Wonder I don't Sell Much

I understand selling items is a hobby for you, but a lot of people just want to get rid of things, so I get the giving it away thing. I've considered selling but decided it's too much aggravation to haggle and deal with people in general. I don't have the patience for it. To me, it's more trouble than it's worth, so I donate items instead. Although I have some collectible items that I'm going to take to auction to sell, I'll see how that goes. It's appealing because that means I don't have to deal with the masses; the auction house does. They take their share of the profits, and that's fine with me.

Years ago, When I did my uncle's estate, I got a nice heavy knotty pine end table from it. I started out at $50 and nary a nibble, so I reduced iy to $25 and no interest, then to $10, then $5 and not one inquiry. I finally put it up for free and got 20 responses. I told the guy that finally came and got it what had happened and he said he wasn't surprised since he only looks at the free stuff.

BTW - the weather doesn't look too good this coming week. About a 50/50 chance of rain each day through Sunday. That makes it dificult to set up in the driveway.

I wouldn’t take that stuff even with it being free. It’s old and outdated and can’t even be called a collectible. I guess it should make OK firewood being that it’s probably maple.
But to someone with a very low income and owning very little they would feel as if they had struck gold. I sincerely hope you don't go around picking up such items turning it into firewood as I would assume you can afford while others struggle and are in need of such items.

I have both given away things and sold them depending on my mood. It can be a big hassle to sell with people not showing up and you stay home for nothing.
I'm always amazed at what charity shops won't take . For example, when I wanted to change the sideboard for a newer model.. I offered the older one to the charity shops.. what a load of hoops I had to jump through. Send photos by email.. show any scratches, any broken parts.. and so on.. there was no damage at all.. but they finally said they couldn't take it '' because people don't want dark wood''..

I was astounded, it was a top quality piece of furniture, albeit a little old style.. and I just wonder how many customers who had nothing would have turned it down...

I put it out at the end of the drive.. with a ''Free to take away'' sign.. and it went very quickly.. in fact the man who knocked the door was so astounded, he knocked first to ensure it was definitely for free..

Young people call it ugly brown furniture. They also don’t have China or good dishes and newer TVs don’t fit in entertainment centers. Young people tend not to collect anything either. Thrift stores sell items not give it away so I guess people aren’t going to buy things not useful to them.

Did you take a good look at the items? If I were into refinishing, it would make a good project, but as it sits now, do you really believe someone would want to display those items in their home?

I used to take stuff like that home and take it apart to either repurpose it, or I'd cut off the bits that looked outdated and then strip, sand, and refinish it. It always looked like I had new stuff.

I put out a Hitchcock rocker ... gone in a snap.

I gave away almost the same chevalier mirror, Mine had a bevel around the outer glass. In fact this pic is almost exactly like it.

As for as that magazine rack; we may be the last generation who even knows what it is. Nobody buys magazines anymore.

I have a subscription to one monthly magazine... haven't bought any other type of magazine for years.. but they're still very popular here going by all the supermarket aisles.. and the newsagents shelves too..

This home I live in today was professionally decorated. The decorator used a lot of IKEA. Maybe she owns stock in them.
I use Ikea in places in my home too.. I was castigated on here relatively recently for it... but in fact I find certain pieces are very sturdy, yet, affordable enough so that once I get fed up with it.. I can change it up without losing anything on it...

I have no complaints about IKEA, in fact, it’s very comfortable, especially the bedding.
Has anyone tried Wayfair? I’m think about giving that a go.
