Not all of our ancestors were Emperors, Kings, & Queens.

Some people get to say that they had famous ancestors. Well, supposedly my great grandmother was a Native American. This was said long before it became fashionable. I was never supposed to say that in public. And another ancestor was hung for being a horse thief.
1. The Native American may be true The British would never wed with the Natives of their colonies. The French had no such compulsion. Those Canadian nights are cold. And I come from French Canadian stock. So, that might be true ????
2.The horse thief one.... Err, there does seem to be a certain gene that has been passed down to certain relatives..........

Here in Wales it is commonly said that its a wise man who knows his own father.

Many people mutter (sotto voce) that where he comes from it's a lucky man who knows his own father --------

My great-grandmother was a Melungeon, which was a mixture of white, black and Cherokee. I can assure you that was something that wasn't brought up when the folks were talking about illustrious ancestors (which we didn't have, anyway.....)

My parents were about as unbiased as people were back in the 1950's, but it still wasn't something you announced at the ladies' luncheon.

My brother married a member of the Nipmuc Tribe in the 60s. She was very open about her heritage, but some of my family would just somehow forget to mention that when telling others about her. Now, that her Tribe has a 30,000 year history, and without the Nipmuc's kindness, the first colonists would have not survived the winter. That, now, is something, nobody forgets.

My cousin did our family tree on our father's side of the family. Our dads were brothers. Italian. From Sicily to be exact. Apparently we have a ancestor who was hung for being a thief. Another was in the mob.

I think most people could trace their lineage to kings, however that's not nearly as interesting as the ones who aren't royals. My first ancestor in the US arrived about 15 years after the Mayflower. He along with some others were given a large portion of what is today Delaware. Now owning a chunk of that would make us rich, right ? No way, they gave it back to the Indians! It is also said that he was the pattern for the Brit in the book The Last of The Mohicans. Then there was the relative of my grandfather who traded his wife for a boat, so he could run rum from Cuba. With that sort of thing in my background who cares about King Ethelred?

A title for a book about my family tree could be ' The Good , the Bad and the Ugly' , but someone already used that ;)

I was checking the census online some years ago and found a female relative on my Dad's side who was I jail. her crime was described as being " a lady of the night"

We had a relative who was a army officer who married an Indian girl when stationed there, apparently the feeling then was that was the end of his career but hetook her back to the Uk where she became quite a well known fashion model so it became OK??

While I was on my genealogy research, I was drawn to Melungeons in Tennessee, to examine a possible connection to my "Mullins" ancestral line. I did not have sufficient data to make positive conclusions, so I shelved that part of my search.

One of my ancestors is believed to be the Minstrel Blondel who rescued the 12th century, King Richard The Lionheart, from a prison in Austria.

During my ancestor search, I discovered that my Great Grandfather survived the Civil War and was with a famous division that may have turned the course of the war.

We had one who was pushed into the army as he was considered a bad boy and would not amount to anything. He ended up as Master of the Queens ( kings)music.. you never know

Mine were from England but some of the men snuck into tepees it seems...
