Not much sleep last night

Cable TV went out about 1:30 am (woke me up). Internet was unaffected. I called tech support and a recorded message said they were aware there was a problem affecting the TV service and it should be restored by 4:30 am. THREE HOURS to fix a TV transmission? So much for that. At 4:30am I called again and the message said service would be restored by 6am. Anyway, it seems okay now. I can't sleep without the TV on.

Back in the 90s when I was single I used to leave the TV on with the volume low, in the bedroom.

In this area Spectrum sends email alerts for outages, progress reports etc… so there is no need to call and get frustrated with hitting buttons, listening to messages, etc…

Maybe a radio could provide a bit of familiar noise during outages. 🤔
That's actually a better idea anyway, for the "white" background noise effect. I suspect the light from the TV screen could mess with the body's Circadian rhythm, causing natural sleep harder to achieve, and leaving a person feel depleted during the day.

This reminds me of my aunt. She always had the radio on at night when she slept. I thought she needed some background noise to keep her company. She lived by herself. May God rest her soul.
Now when I go to bed, I take a sleeping pill, turn on soft music at the lowest volume and say a prayer.

Used to always have a small portable radio set - can get one with short wave reception also - last broke down and must remember to replace - there is something about listening to a radio particularly small amount of simultaneous speakers that is soothing and you can do it with ya eyes closed - keep opening mine with tv on?

I cover my eyes with a pillow. I learned that trick when I worked nights.
Had to sleep during the day and it would also muffler the city bus & the
kids out of high school in afternoons. VhRoom - vhroom.

I also have an air filter for the air quality running.

I listen to podcasts on my phone. Some are just interesting enough to keep me from thinking about other things. I know the ones that can jolt me back awake. Some are specifically for sleep. Things like Sleep Magic or I Can’t Sleep.

Why not use an eye mask instead of a pillow?

Reminds me of a story where in a broadcast area, in case of tornado warnings, the residents were advised to turn their TV volume up to max, but the station would go off the air.

If a tornado was reported, people were awakened by the TV blaring the alarm.

Just something I read about years ago.

A fan and "rain sounds" on my Alexa, after some amount of tossing and turning = sleep for me.
