NYC installs some bike traffic lights

Sounds like a goofy waste of money to me.

Better to ban the use of "cycling on all-fours" bikes on public thoroughfares. People like the Dutch make very high use of proper upright-seated styles, no excuses like "But there's no traffic light in my belly button."

Regular traffic lights should already apply to these motorized bikes no matter how small it is.

These small electric bikes, scooters or even skateboards becoming a problem all over. To top it if they're powered so what's the big deal about having to stop then start again compared to an actual pedal biker who has to put physical effort into it.

Toronto has had specific traffic lights for bike riders for at least the past 5 years, mainly in the downtown core areas. Toronto has a large network of bike lanes, that are protected by numerous barriers and lane markings, to keep the bikes segregated and away from vehicle traffic lanes. The conflicts arise at intersections, where vehicles are trying to make a right turn, and the bike riders are going straight through the intersection.

The solution is to give the bike riders AND the pedestrians a 30 second "Green Light " before the cars are allowed to make that right turn. This reduces conflicts. Toronto has over 9,000 rental pedal bikes available at 469 pick up stations, that people can use, for a few minutes, or for hours at a time. You pay with a credit card when you select a bike, and when you put it back into a charging stand, you click to pay for it. These bikes have electric motors that recharge when you put the bike back into a docking station. They also have built in lights, front and back. JIM.

WE Have 12,000 rental bikes in London alone .. with 800 docking stations, and with the added thousands of regular cyclists .they're a damn menace on the roads....

Totally silly. I rode my bike for years going from West 82nd Street and West End Avenue, in upper Manhattan, to Jane Street in Greenwich Village, and then back home again. I used the same stoplights the rest of the traffic used. No need for one just for bikes.
