Obesity in America

Obesity is this nations Biggest health problem....even worse than Covid. Over 40% of our people are substantially overweight....among ALL age groups....and obesity is the root cause for over 30% of our nations health problems and costs.

I'm sure there are a few...Very Few....who have some underlying condition which affects their metabolism, but the vast majority are fat because of poor eating habits, and lack of exercise.

I can't understand how such people can look in a mirror, and not be disgusted with themselves.
At least one of the gimmicky weight loss advertisements on TV try to suggest some underlying condition is 'causing' your obesity, yea it's called insulin resistance, but that is the result of a poor eating history. Insulin resistance can be reversed as can all the ailments caused by metabolic syndrome.

I think all of that are contributors to the obesity rate in both the United States and the UK. The bottom line is people need to be more disciplined with better food choices and eating patterns. Food choices meaning staying away from the Fast Food/Fatty Foods and eating patterns meaning not snacking on potato chips, cookies, and stuff like that between meals and late at night. The alcohol consumption needs to be done in moderation as well. I don't have a problem at all have a drink or two each night, but when it becomes a high amount consumed each day that is not good. Depression definitely can lead to wanting to snack to attempt to cover up the depression.
That is what my doctor says to all of his patients who are overweight. There are a lot of them. He is known around town as the doctor who tells people they can't eat cookies and chips and fast food. What does he want them to do, starve???

I wonder if he is the only doc who says that. Because when anyone in 12.5 years starts a sentence with "I hate my doctor...", it always ends with the same story. Yet no one ever switches docs because he is a very good one!

I am never for totally given up anything including cookies and chips. I do however feel that eating them in moderation and not in between each meal is important. I think moderation is the key here.

So does the doc. He has to spell it out and I don't think most of these folks do what he says anyway. He doesn't mean it literally ... a bit of exaggeration to drive home his point. He has a dry sense of humor.

I doubt most people listen either because that sort of stuff tastes good. It does help though when you eat it in moderation. I mean eating an entire tray of Oreo Cookies in one sitting is not good for you.
